Summer movie season is ramping up with the first big blockbuster of the season, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, opening this Friday. I'm actually excited or at least interested in quite a few movies this year--more than I think I have been for a long time, or maybe even ever...

May 1st: Wolverine
May 8th: Star Trek
May 15th: Angels & Demons (Da Vinci Code sequel)
May 22nd: Terminator Salvation
May 29th: Up (new Pixar movie)
June 5th: Land of the Lost (Will Ferrell)
June 24th: Transformers 2
July 10th: Brüno (Sacha Baron Cohen of Borat fame)
July 15th: Harry Potter 6
August 7th: G.I. Joe
August 23rd: Inglourious Basterds (remake of old film directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt)

Just about all of these are sequels or remakes, but I'm still interested in all of them. What movies are all of you interested in seeing this summer?
The only ones that interest me mildly are Bruno and Basterds.

I have heard from some people who saw the leaked version of Wolverine that it is a disappointment. Of course, they are uber comic book nerds who are well versed in the minutiae of Wolverine's comic book heritage, but they were still put off by all the liberties the filmmakers took with the story and characters. I will still see it, as I love Wolverine, but I am not holding my breath for a good film.

The leaked version wasn't even the final cut of the movie though. I am sure it won't be as good as all of the hype, but I expect it to be an entertaining action movie.

Something I will say is those hardcore fans are never happy with a film adaptation of anything they like. Mainley because the plot gets revised for Hollywood and/or they leave out details that aren't important to the plot.

When you read comics, you can get tons of details. It can take several years in the comic world to tell a story. In film, you've only got 2 hours, and you have to appeal to the mass market as opposed to the comic book only audience.

I am probably most excited for Star Trek and Transformers. I think they are going to rockzorzz.

My team is being given $20 movie gift cards this week, so I think that Wolverine can't be a real disappointment, since I'm going for free.

Maybe some other folks won't want their cards, and there are more free movies in my future:smile:

The 2 that I will definitely see are Star Trek and Terminator.

I thought Borat was great so there is a pretty good chance I will see Bruno

Wow - I can honestly say I don't think there's a movie coming up that I find worth spending to go see in a theater. Maybe Angels and Deamons -but DaVinci was disappointing, so I'm not expecting much in this one either.

Last summer I was pumped for a number of them - including Dark Knight, Indiana Jones (yeesh), and a few others.

I'm more excited about this summers than last. Individually I was more pumped for Dark Knight last year than any single movies this year, but I expect this year's summer to be a lot better.

Wolverine was a dissapointment to me, but not completly surprised. I liked it better than Indiana Jones from last year, so that's good.

Not saying much - I liked Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants better than last summer's Indiana Jones.

(No, I didn't see Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants)

I have a mild interest in seeing the new Star Trek. I love going to movies, so I'll see almost anything. Just not really psyched about many flicks this summer.

The movie adaptation of Angels & Demons is being written as a sequel to the DaVinci Code. I think the chick from the DaVinci Code (descendant of Christ) is replacing the chick from Angels & Demons. I can't remember their names, it's been years since I've read the books.

Either way, I'm going to see A&D, I liked it a lot more than the DC.

I'm most pumped for Transformers 2 though. The new trailer is amazing. The shot of Devastator at the end... wow.

I'd be seeing Star Trek on Friday with my wife and brother-in-law if it wasn't for the fact that I was getting "hooded" that evening...

Hard to say how many I'll actually see... combination of I think Hollywood needs to come up with some new ideas rather than just making prequels and sequels, and I'm boycotting the local movie theater as it is a ******* piece of **** that doesn't deserve to be in business, however the powers that be have made it so that it has no competition (think crappier than your average dollare theater, but at full price)

As such, any movies I do see won't likely be when they first come out, but more along the lines of when the base theater gets them in. The base theater is reeeeeeeeally old school construction, so pretty low quality in terms of theaters, but atleast they actually maintain the theater and clean it up, and it is cheaper since they show them a few weeks after the movies are released.

And I'd rather support MWR than whatever jack *** owns the local theater (where 4 of 6 seats in one of the rows are broken as well as numerous other seats, the floor and seats are sticky, lobby is tiny, and they charge the same damn price as a brand new, stadium seating, all the bells and whistles theater)

In case you can't tell, I reeeeeeeeeeally don't like the theater down here :skeptical:

Parts Unknown
May 1st: Wolverine
May 8th: Star Trek
May 15th: Angels & Demons (Da Vinci Code sequel)
May 22nd: Terminator Salvation
May 29th: Up (new Pixar movie)
June 5th: Land of the Lost (Will Ferrell)
June 24th: Transformers 2
July 10th: Brüno (Sacha Baron Cohen of Borat fame)
July 15th: Harry Potter 6
August 7th: G.I. Joe
August 23rd: Inglourious Basterds (remake of old film directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt)

Wolverine- Liked it better than X-Men: The Last Stand, but that's not saying much

Star Trek- Very Excited, especially see what J.J. Abrams did for the reboot.

Angels & Demons- I fell asleep during The DaVinci Code, so this isn't looking to good for me.

Terminator: Salvation- I'm not feeling it. That's just me.

Up- Yes

Land Of The Lost- Always up for Will Ferrell. Add in Danny McBride (Kenny ****** Powers, man!!!) Comic gold.

Transformers 2- I'm to old for that. When the transformers came out was about the time I found girls more interesting than a car that transformed into a robot  Besides, Michael Bay peaked at blowing stuff up with Armageddon.

Bruno- YES

Harry Potter 6- Never saw any of them, never read any of the books, so no.

G.I. Joe- What I said about Transformers 2 except the Michael Bay part

Inglorious Basterds- It's not remake, but I'm always up for Tarrantino

One that you forgot that I'm looking forward to is on July 1: Public Enemies. Michael Mann's take on the John Dillenger with Johnny Depp playing Dillenger and Christian Bale playing Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent who caught him (sorry, I just ruined the ending :jimlad:)
