Just for good measure, let's put McD's records from UNI in there. I only did the previous stop for each coach, in case anyone wonders about Wayne State or North Dakota/whatever(because we had a poster way back when who would bring it up):

Year 1: 14-15
Year 2: 11-17
Year 3: 21-10
Year 4: 21-11
Year 5: 23-10

Fine records, but nothing special.
Prohm had the best resume coming in since Johnny, and it's not even close.

Close. Long Beach City College/State.
I had to look it up. I agree on the fishbowl part from earlier. I read that in a Lute biography a while ago. It was a big much for them.
Hey Eric, You would think that I should be able to remember Long Beach because when I was a little boy we took the train out to Los Angeles to visit them...LOL...
Thanks for your correction my friend.

Search is right there in my response. A person doing their job would conduct a true search. I didn't think that needed to be spelled out. Pollard is a professional.

Again, if the President doesn't think Pollard is doing his job, or doing his job properly, she should find a person that she does trust.
Are you not familiar with JP? You didn’t have “true” search in your prior post. And it’s reasonable for the president to want to make certain it’s a “true” search that is becoming the 2nd most visible university employee, and that all possible resources have been utilized. Standard supervisor stuff.

Records are not resumes unless you're a high school kid.

Resume does not equal records. That's part of it but look where and who these guys learned from. Prohm was not even our first choice. He had no experience outside a low major and his only mentoring came from Billy Kennedy.

ADs don't dig that deep. Neither does anyone involved in the selection, the reporting, or anything else.
It's not at all part of the resume.

But hey, keep moving the goalposts and tapdancing. Fact is, this dude had the best resume coming in, and I've long argued that this was a bad hire and a bad retention.

AD's look at your season records and nothing deeper? Are you for real right now? Working for Romar, McDermott and Hoiberg and at ISU is irrelevant? This is funny.

Of course they don't have to agree. But again, it comes down to trust. If you don't trust the person that you have in the position, why the heck are they there?
Its not about trust. It's making sure you are on the same page. In the end it is Wendy that has to answer to the Board of Regents and not JP if there is ever a shi&storm.

It is also impressive to a potential coaching hire to interview with the university president. It shows the president is engaged with the athletic department and willing to support the AD and department in tough times.

Have you watched these searches? Not exactly deep.

Some dude this year will have a surprise run to the Sweet Sixteen and cash in on it. A deeper look, or look at all, will show that he hardly has a chance to make it work, but he'll get paid.

Every year, bro, for decades on end. If you think they dig real deep, that's your mistake.

And those guys get fired, bro.

Trust, but verify

All employees have weaknesses. That doesn’t mean you fire them, but you do manage them and help mitigate those. Asking high level questions and confirming some things is SOP

Only reason T.J. is even on the radar is due to his Iowa State ties. Gates and Smith are being mentioned for other head coaching jobs around the country. At the same time, UNLV fans are ready to move on from T.J.
Only reason TJ is on the radar is because he's familiar with ISU, is married to and ISU legend, has close personal ties to the ISU AD and was at ISU for one of the most successful stretches in ISU history. Besides being a successful head coach. Other than that....

It is totally about trust.

Any hire at the University has a potential to cause your storm. You wouldn't expect the President to interview everybody hired.

Again, we aren't going to change each other's mind, it is best we just drop it.

So you're saying Jamie isn't to be trusted in his job?
I would be curious what you do for a career.

I have never seen a business owner or high level executive totally turn over decision making to someone working for them. Some execs are micro managers, some are very hands off. But none has stepped aside when a big decision is made. It's not a matter of trusting, its a matter of where the buck stops if something goes wrong or if the subordinate's vision differs from the owner/executive.

If Jamie and Wendy HAVE A TRUSTING RELATIONSHIP, then Jamie would welcome Wendy's involvement & input.
