I am physically unable to listen to T Swift's high pitched whining for more than 3 or 4 bars. Nettles sings in the old traditional country twank -- like Loretta Lynn .............real country. But music and art are just silly to debate - people like what they like and have different tastes.

Well, that aside, if its just based on pure talent, T-Swift shouldn't even be allowed in the same area code as Jen Nettles.

How is that any different than pop singers? rap? rock? punk? You have some talented ones and some that are 'manufactured.'

NO different than pop. That's why I don't care for it.

Thanks for the clarification JBone!

As for Nettles, I have to respectfully disagree on that one brother1
- T-Swift + a banjo = AWESOME. It takes real talent to actually play a banjo -- she was strumming not picking. And built like a 10 year old boy.

1 - I grew up with cornfields in my back yard. Does that make it legal for me to like this kind of music?

2 - I also love Eminem, Jay Z, DMX (back in the day) etc. However, I generally don't hang around with hot women, drive a Bentley or drink Hennessy. Eminem used to rap about some messed up stuff that I have never partaken in. By your logic, I can't enjoy that kind of music?

Disconnect. I didn't say that you couldn't listen to any kind of music you wanted to. I didn't say it was illegal. I just said that it doesn't make much sense to me.

Yeah. You're right. People who write their own songs, play like five instruments, sing and sell out arenas all over the world have no talent at all. Good stuff.

I didn't realize that you had to meet certain physical standards to be a quality musician. So are you physically attracted to George Strait? I assume you'll say no to that. So does that mean that his music sucks?

Notice, I'm NOT making fun of anyone for liking it, I just don't understand why they do. For every actually talented singer-songwriter like Taylor Swift, there's a dozen manufactured "pop stars" who look good and can sing a little, but wouldn't know the first thing about playing an instrument or writing a song. And there's a dozen "cowboys" who have never chased a cow in their lives.

My wife likes country and my same opinion applies. She wouldn't even consider living outside of town, much less actually do farm work. She's never ridden in a tractor and never been close up to livestock in her life outside of a petting zoo. Yet here she is listening to "Born Country", "She's Gone Country", "Redneck Woman", etc. The closest thing she's been to "country" is road tripping on gravel roads.

I think a lot of it is that it's a lot easier for me to relate to it. I don't listen to a lot of country music but it is far easier for me to relate to most songs than hip hop or 80s rock. I mean I just haven't been in the environment where there's hoes and skanks running rampant and guns in every hood. I also haven't been in the environment where there are options of different girls in the back of my Nova every night. I have, however, been out drinking on a dirt road, and one time she did think my tractor was sexy. I think that's my reasoning anyway.

And Lambert needs to shy away from the Cheeseburgers.

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. I agree, she has lost me a little. Carrie Underwood, on the other hand, can just keep on doing what she's doing because I really do like that approach to life.

Taylor Swift does write most of her songs about the same things, but I don't really get bothered by that. She's right up there in my top 2 country artists. Great voice, and while some may feel that the theme gets tiresome, the lyrics are still VERY good.

Carrie Underwood is also one of my biggest favorites. She's got the great voice, the looks, and more of an edge to her.

But I'm not a big country fan overall. I like rock (Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin) and rap (Eminem, Jay-Z) more. But Swift and Underwood are awesome!

While agree with you that Taylor Swift is talented, I do think there's a difference between being talented and being entertaining. I think she's talented but live she isn't very entertaining, IMO.

I really like Taylor but I disagree on the great voice. Average at best. Great songs though. Very catchy.

If given free tix to Taylor Swift concert, I would not go. C Underwood - in a heart beat.

I would. I've been to a Carrie concert. I prefer her to Taylor but her concert wasn't great IMO. She has a lot of slower songs. Great voice, nice to listen to, but puts me to sleep at a concert.

I only watched the first hour of the ACM's and will probably finish watching the last 2 hours of it tonight on the DVR. I admitted switched the channel to watch John Rich as the project manager on Celebrity Apprentice last night raise a buttload of money (about $626K which a good chunk of that came from John's country music connections) only to get beat by the women's team who raised nearly $1 mil.

Watched the red carpet and Big & Rich are back at it this summer going on tour and will be recording some new music they announced! I'm excited about that news, been waiting a LONG time since their last album.

I loved Eric Church's performance, he's quickly becoming one of my favorites lately too. Brad Paisley opening up with Alabama was cool, even a standing O when Alabama came on stage. Can't wait to see what else happened when I watch the last 2 hours.

I agree, get rid of the duo category and just make it best duo or group award. I don't consider Sugarland a true duo since I don't believe the guy has ever sung lead on any of their songs has he? At least with Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Big & Rich, etc. both parts of the duo has their own songs they sing lead on.

Never said she wasnt talented. Just said she isnt in the same area-code as Jen Nettles. But, I was approaching it from a strictly vocal angle. Maybe that was
short-sighted of me.
But no, vocally T-Swift cant hold a candle to Jen Nettles. By any standard.

No Zac Brown Band/James Taylor comments? Seriously? C'mon people...James Taylor is an icon and Zac Brown is flat out AWESOME! When they panned the crowd, every one was focused, nodding heads and singing along for those two.

Of course, I am a huge Zac Brown Band fan but I can't believe that no one even commented on those guys! And BTW- Zc Brown delivers every single time...live, recorded, etc...
