We’re in the same type of situation. We ended going for three because I already had my oldest and my wife wanted two more of her own closer in age. The third meant my wife could no longer work. We did the math and her full time job would have brought home around 300 a month after only calculating daycare and gas. At a certain point it’s not worth it. The youngest two are going on four and two soon and I can’t wait until they get into school.
I do handyman type work on the side but keep in mind, more kids also means less time for supplemental income as well. My ability to free up a night or day on a weekend has gone down a ton after each child.
If you’re handy at all, people need things done around their house all the time and work just comes by word of mouth of you know what you’re doing.
I usually charge somewhere around 40-50 bucks an hour plus materials (with a small markup), which is typically quite a bit less than a true professional but its still really good supplemental income.
If anyone around Ankeny needs some work done, let me know.

I put up a garage heater yesterday and the next project is a barn door for a member here (who is a repeat customer).
