Should he speak or should he go?

Yeah I really don't see how it could help. If anything it just gets people talking about the reasons he wouldn't be worthy of the MI job (i.e. bad seasons, mediocre recruiting, lack of progress, off the field problems) and gets recruits looking at Illinois, Indiana, ISU, etc that are on the rise. That's not to mention the problem of not knowing if he'd be your coach or not.

IMO, I think if there is no clout to all this publicity about Ferentz going to Michigan, then he is going to have exponentially more problems as time goes on that he continues to keep quiet. We already know that his recruits are starting to get second thoughts and/or left already. Even if the two that left this last weekend didn't leave because of this, you know the other recruits are thinking they left because of it and wondering if they should do the same. Second of all, if he stays, the great fanbase is going to blame him for losing recruits regardless of if there is actual fault or not.

If he stays and they get 10-11 wins next year then no harm done. If they have anything similar to this year or worse in relation to wins, you know every fan is going to look back at this last week to however long the facts come out and use it to drag Ferentz's name through the mud even more and blame him for not coming out and dispelling the rumours and as a result losing all the good recruits that would have easily taken them to the BCS championship game next year.

Then you have the other segment of the fanbase that wanted him gone 3 minutes after the Western Michigan game and are now getting all pumped up with the thought of being able to land Pete Carrol, or Jim Tressel, or Bill Bellichick or that caliber of a coach that if he stays he ticks off these people who want the best and no less and now that segment of the fanbase is building resentment towards him very quickly if the season doesn't go well next year. Like said earlier, if he has another 2002-2005 season, then all is forgotten just like when they get some good hallucinagens and life is goo

That's my two cents, and if I am right, I hope this drags on a lot longer.

I don't think Ferentz owes anyone at Iowa anything. He took them to heights that they really never expected (or should have expected). I'd miss him, as he apparently can't game plan for ISU, but Iowa fans should appreciate what he did do.

Exactly right. He really owes Iowa nothing. And given all the grief he's received this season and last - I can't blame at all should he move on.

I agree he doesn't owe them anything but as their paid coach and leader, I think he "owes" them the courtesy of trying to keep things from going downhill even further.

Reminds me a bit of McCarney last year... (different circumstances but...) He finally had to break the silence for the sake of the program.

KF maybe needs to consider doing the same

He owes his players, staff and the university that respect. Not sure he owes (most of) the fans.... That what I was getting at.

I disagree. I believe for what he gets paid, he owes the university a lot. If his keeping quiet is hurting their program at all, he's not doing what he get's paid to do. Even if he does plan on moving on, he still is paid by the university to do what's best for the university. Maybe keeping quiet is whats best, but I don't believe saying that he owes nothing to the University that gave him a HC job, helped him become a hot name in coaching (while not as hot as he used to be) and made him one of the highest paid coaches in football is not fair.

Oh, this is pure gold.

Really, EIU should be thankful for Ferentz. 6-6 really is the best they can hope for. With their limited facilities and fan-base cumulative IQ, they should just be thankful for seasons right around .500.

Who do they think they are, Michigan?

Really, Ferentz and back to back .500 seasons are the best they can do.

It would help if they didn't obsess about their Big Brothers to the West, and hang around Cyclone internet forums. Maybe if they didn't make the ISU-EIU game their SUPERBOWL every year, they may do better overall and in their conference.

Oh well. My best friend's a hawkfan, and I cheer for ALL the "in-state" schools. (fingers crossed) hawkfan just needs to learn how to lose gracefully.

I don't think Iowa owes KF anything either. They already paid $3M a year. However, he may want to get rid of his offnsive coordinator.
