There's no way she comes here. I think someone mentioned awhile ago she likes Nebraska for gymnastics.

She cannot compete as an amateur anymore, she is a pro because she accepts $$ to compete, and has sponsorships.

I think it only rules out the sport you get paid in. So, if she becomes really good at basketball, she could go to college and play that. But, I believe her collegiate gymnast career is over.

I think she would really have to grow some for basketball. Isn't she like 4'8 or something?

Maybe after all of the endorsement and exhibition tours are over, JP can find a place for her as an assistant coach or GA. That would be pretty cool.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think this is wrong. If it's right, Jeremy Bloom has a legit case against the NCAA. He received sponsorship money for participating in skiing at the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the NCAA ruled him ineligible for his last two years of football at Colorado. After the Olympics he went to the NFL combine and still managed to get drafted and signed, despite sitting out his last two years of college ball.

Bloom was in a sport where there is no true "salary." Everything the skiiers make is because of endorsements.

That's where the NCAA gets you. If skiing had a structured salary, Bloom probably would have been eligible for football.

If I remember correctly, the sticking point with Bloom was that he wanted to continue to train for (and receive endorsements for) skiing while playing football at Colorado. The NCAA said that he couldn't be bringing in that cash while he was playing football. Since he couldn't train without the endorsements, he didn't play football. It's just like a kid who plays minor league baseball for a few years and comes back to play football. He couldn't be bringing in that minor league paycheck while he's playing college football, but he's eligible if he's not.

I don't know what everyone else thought but her balance beam routine that she just did was amazing. She is as good as advertised. Her teammates need to step it up a little bit but these were only prelims.

I hate watching the balance beam because it seems so dangerous. She executed that like she was standing on solid ground, not on a narrow beam. Not even a waver at all.

When the olympics are over she will be worth millions and set for life. She has been on the national stage, world stage, is the olympic sweetheart, and a lot of people have watched her perform. Why would she even want to go to college to preform? It is a huge step back in her sport. Almost like a HS star athlete going back to JR high to play after graduation.

I would have done that in football if I could. I could run over anybody I wanted and lay some serious wood.:biglaugh:

But seriously, yeah i see what you're saying.

In the intro they said it was 5 girls and an Icon. They had little things in the corner saying Shawn Johnson in 15 minutes... She will be set for life, probably looking at 10's of millions of dollars. Think how famous Mary Lou Retton still is. Shawn will blow that away.

Shawn Johnson got hosed on the beams. How that score wasn't a 16 I don't know.

The US coaches husband mentioned the word "cheating" when talking about it

Ask Jeremy Bloom (I think that's his name) about that one - he was the Olympic skier who had to take endorsement money to keep going in his sport, but it wrecked his college football career at Colorado.

N/M - I just got done reading the other posts on the topic.
