Testifying
She's the greatest female athlete I've ever seen. She may be the greatest athlete ever but I hold Carl Lewis and Bo Jackson in pretty high regard.

After watching Emma Raducanu destroy her in Cincinnati a few weeks ago, I thought she had no chance in the U.S. Open. Very impressive.

Don't know how you compare Bo to Carl.

Kind of difference between a non grand slam event and a grand slam event where when you lose your done for good. She was probably internally saving herself so she would be at her max for the Open.

She said after the match that since 1999 (23 freaking years) she’s had a target on her back and that she finally doesn’t feel that pressure. That’s pretty cool.

Her “I’m just Serena, you know ” and “wellllll, I’m a pretty good player” quotes were just so bad ass.

There is plenty of record of the racist abuse she and Venus have endured through the years and they still let a blowhard announcer that had the gall to write an “open letter” denouncing the way the sisters chose to live their lives while playing competitive tennis announce their matches.

Chris Evert can suck a fat one.

I don't follow tennis, but you now have my attention. I may need to check out what this is about.

Just Google it, easy to find. Basically saying she was wasting her “physical abilities” and not working hard enough by skipping some of the non major events due to other events in her life. And of course she and Venus boycotted Indian Wells for years after the racist crap there.

Kind of like a oh you don’t work hard enough with your physical gifts, basically saying she was lazy. Well she’s still playing at the ripe old age of 41 so maybe she was onto something.

Evert was trending on Twitter last night for her passive aggressive **** calling the match. The other announcer (was it Fowler maybe?) had to talk her down a couple of times.

In addition to her racism, I always viewed her attack as partially due to the way the sisters came to prominence. They could not afford the fancy camps that Evert and her family used as their cash cows. They found a way to excel without the money that tennis generally required, on public courts with their dad.

For sure. I sort felt like her quote last night was more along the lines of competitively she’s had a target on her back for 23 years. But you’re right that she (and Venus) have had unfair attacks, both because of their race and because they are strong women.
