I wouldn’t take anything from bowl game results anymore. There’s are exhibition games that are determined by who has fewer players out with covid, or who’s star players are opting to not play, and/or who’s team and fans really care.

They always have been.

It really isn't too much different than taking anything from any other part of the season. There will never be a perfect sample. Guys are injured, don't get up for games equally, etc during the season too

No not really back in the day there wasn't covid and the best players didn't usually sit out.

These guys had 13/14 teams bowl eligible, they’re going to rack up some losses.

6-6 Florida has non con wins over 5-6 FAU, 2-10 USF, 4-7 FCS Samford, and 5-7 FSU

6-6 SC beat EIU, ECU, and Troy

6-6 Missouri beat C Mich, SEMo, N Tex

7-5 Tenn beat Bowling Green, Tenn Tech, So Alabama

And they all got an easy one against Vandy in conf too - and that’s just one division (and all these mediocre teams got to play each other too)

A lot easier to make a bowl game when every team 2-6 or better in conference qualifies

Some folks have looked at how well bowl game results and last-half-of-season results correlate with the following season's results. Bowl games are bad predictors. If you beat a top 20 team in a bowl game it may not mean anything for the following year. Last 6 games are good predictors. If you play like a top 20 team in your last 6 games, there is a good chance you will play like a top 20 team the next season. When they looked at these results, they were using efficiency metrics - not just W-L. You can win a bowl game or go 6-0 while playing poorly against bad teams and in their models that doesn't predict a good team the following season.

And your point?

Wow, it’s shocking a 6 game sample is more consistent predictive than a one game sample.

All SEC east teams. SEC is the easiest road to a bowl game, they only play 8 conference games and every single year play the least amount of p5 teams. They pack the non con with trash, then win two SEC games and get a bowl game. They aren't even trying to hide anything anymore. If you were in the east, you get 4 or 5 wins handed to you.

Good. I hope they take a pummeling all bowl season.

Not to defend the SEC, but having the best 2 teams in the CFP does move everyone up two notches of difficulty. That doesn't help. But I think you will see that impact more in the higher bowl games like Arkansas and Ole Miss.

But I do agree that other than Bama & GA (and probably A&M, who won't play), there isn't much special about the SEC. Other than puffed up win totals from playing only 8 conference games.

Florida would have finished 6-6 if playing in the B12 as well. They simply are not good. Their QB would not start ahead of Purdy, Thompson (either one), Rattler or Williams, Sanders, or most any other B12 QB. Their receivers are as dreadful as their field goal kicker. And the team has damn near zero discipline.

A good win for the B12. ;)
