Make no mistake...the "pro-Hawkeye establishment" is a little scared about what is going on in Ames. They are going to try to put a negative spin on anything that is positive for ISU.

By the way, I think the writers/columnists at the DMR are overpaid!

I agree. 99% of what's in the Rag is garbage. But I feel that way about 99% of the media today. I agree that the morons there are horrendously overpaid.

"The Daily Worker", I mean The Des Moines Register isn't familiar with the term ROI = Return On Investment.

I hope no one was expecting "sterling journalism" from the article. After all, it was written by Randy Peterson...

It's Iowa, it is always a slow news day. This is why everyone gets so fanatical about Iowa v ISU, there is nothing else to do here.

You could go to Hickory Park :yes4lo:
Man o man do I miss that place :sad9cd:

Does anyone know if they deliver ribs? I'd pay a bit extra for the 1100 trip!

Do assisitant coaches have the ability to make more income than their contract? Can the head coach take summer camp money and shoe contract money and give some of it to the assistant coaches directly without going through the University contract. If so, comparisons between differing schools would not be relevant.

What I see here is a setup for this fall by the DMR.

If ISU wins, they'll complain Iowa's assistants are not paid enough.

If Iowa wins, it will be mud on ISU's face that a lower-paid assistant staff defeated them.

Classic.

My friend, I remind you that you live in Texas...You should be able to find good ribs somewhere close by. Up here in DFW, there are alot of derougatory things said about Houston, but I've never heard it said that Houston lacks good barbecue...

Ah, the comments here are why I love this site. On point, down to earth, and reasonable. With a couple of digs at the Commie Hawkeye Loving Newspaper thrown in.
Bottom line for me is that our assistants will no longer be at the bottom of the pool, salary wise. We actually got a fair amount of success for our bucks. Now, we are getting to be where we should be. Can greater success on the field be far behind? I think not.:wink0st:

University of Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta, "I look at national averages and Big Ten averages and then make sure what we provide is within the balance that we can afford."

My Iowa friends tell me the $2.7M price for 6-7 is a little expensive. I know they went to three consecutive New Years' Day Bowls, but all glory is fleeting.

You make a good point. Why don't they include the total payroll for each coaching staff? How could they forget the highest paid state employees salary of almost $3M per season as opposed the roughly $1M ISU will be paying it's head coach?

If they weren't so biased maybe they would report that the difference between the two head coaches salaries is greater than the total that will be paid to all of ISU's assistant football coaches. That is a something worth reporting, but alas the Register always misses the real story. This is a perfect example of why I don't subscribe to that crappy paper.

AMEN. well put, the DM needs to start showing ISU some respect, they spin everything positive about a university and its athletics programs growing into crap like that.

per year, only Bob Stoops at Oklahoma makes more than kirk ferentz at iowa...and even Pete Carrol and his national championships at USC make less than the "GREAT" coach at eicc, thats ridiculous...6-7 record for that much? you think programs like oklahoma and usc would put up with that? I think iowa's finally gonna realiza he can produce a decent football team, but he was kind of a early fluke who has come back down to reality these past two years...iowa's heads got in the sky with ferentz and somehow they believe they deserved bcs bowls with 7-5 years and that they are an elite program with michigan and osu in the little 11...when they aren't even CLOSE.

Who cares what they make as long as they can produce. It seems only the Squawkers are complaining considering where the locations at the bottom of the articles are from. All I care about is a program that will produce, whether this year or next. Just produce and get all those people that are complaining to eat crow.
