Pitcher A over the last 2 years- 477 IP, 448 K's, 14 CG's, 6 SHO, 3.15 ERA

Pitcher B over the last 2 years- 383.3 IP, 401 K's, 0 CG's, 0 SHO, 3.64 ERA

Would you consider Zack Greinke a #1 starter? Which one of these is his 2 year line? (without looking it up)

I wouldn't have guessed that without looking up James Shields' stats, but this just tells you how big of a move this is. Guy eats innings which is great for a dominant bullpen that can't pitch 4 innings a game.

And that's playing in the AL East compared to the NL Central plus 2+ months of the AL West

The guy also eats up a lot of innings. He pitched 230 innings this past year. Think that was 2nd behind Verlander.

KC also had the third worst offense in the AL last year, and we are virtually assured a lack of runs with Frenchy in RF every day.

Shields will have to win the Cy Young for this trade to work out.

I don't think they're very likely to compete this year no matter what Dayton Moore did. I'm somebody that's starting to warm up to this deal a bit too after sleeping on it.

I'm feeling a bit for Dayton right now, as I suspect Glass graciously told him he'd raise the payroll to $70 Million (thanks you crotchety old bastard) but also demanded they compete this year.

Dyson was better offensively that Francouer last year. The thing that just pisses me off terribly about Dayton Moore is that he will buy high on guys like Chen, Francouer, and Guthrie after they have very limited success. I'd rather they use cheap, young players than spend millions on mediocrity.

Royals need to buy Billy Bean.

Not really, there are plenty of outcomes where it could work out. But in my mind, for it to truly be a win for the Royals we have to make the playoffs in '13 or '14.

I think Frenchy sucks too, but the word is they will cut bait on him if he plays like last season. Corner outfied is one of the easiest positions to fill though, so we should at least be able to find someone respectable to replace JF. No pain no gain, we need pitching badly, its certainly a tradeoff.

Suprised to see 8 pages on the Royals, at least they are doing something, hopefully it works out.

When your team has the tightest, cheapest, most self-serving owner in all of baseball; has had 18 losing seasons in 19 years including three 100+ loss season in a four-year stretch, gives chump-change contracts to people who become stars for other teams and was the laughing stock of the entire MLB for most of the 2000s...even a moderate woody-generating trade such as this will get people talking.

as far as the offense is concerned getting rid of that turd Kevin Seitzer is gonna help a ton. When he was our coach in high school i new he was full of ****, let alone on the major league level. He screwed up Hoz and Moose so bad. Watch for David Lough to get more than enough opportunity to play everyday.

No kidding. Heck, just the crazy idea of making moves driven by the goal of winning this year (a foreign concept thus far in Moore's era) for once is enough to get us excited, let alone the fact that we have now brough in 4 new starting pitchers who are all legitimate big league pitchers. When you have had Bruce Chen, Luke Hochevar, Jose Lima and freaking Scott Elarton all start on opening day in recent years, you are starving for anything to get excited about.

For Royals fans it's always been about the prospects. Any good Royals fan can list all the affiliates and 90% of their starting lineups. When your Major League teams has been this ******, for this long, all you can do to survive is follow the young players.

This trade hurts. But, I know the stadium will be full next season with anticipation of actually fielding a competitive team.

As a life long Royals fan I like. Finally, we get to be a "buyer" for a change. The core offense is here, the division is weak, some of the higher market teams are going to be down (Yankees, Red Sox) and there are 2 wild cards. Why not throw in some of your cards and compete now.

this smells too much like a melky trade. we trade melky and he has an all star year (if you skip the roids). and then we get sanchez who arguably pitched worse then my 12 year old sister would have.

And Wil Myers hasn't even played a single game in the Majors and struck out 140 times this year in the minors. But yes, carry on...

I have to admit, I have hated trades DM has done in the past. However this one makes sense when you think of it. It seems to me people like to ***** just about everything. When I think of prospects I think of Moose, Butler and Gordon. However I also think of this guy:

Haha I remember when everyone would ***** about the Royals not calling him up and how he was tearing up AAA. Then he got up to the Majors and couldn't hit major league pitching. Good ol, Micah.
