My biggest issue with 4-4-2-2 is the P2 absolutely dominating the CCG weekend attention with their additional play-in games. With 5-11, you’d at least still have the exclusive spotlight for the Big12 championship game.
Why couldn’t the B12 just do a play-in similar to SEC and B10 with our two autobids and still maintain exposure and relevance during that time period?

Cause then you don’t get a championship game

SEC / Big10
1 vs 2 for championship 2 AQ spots)
3 vs 6 for 1 AQ
4 vs 5 for 1 AQ

So they each now have 3 games that weekend. The Big12 and ACC games will become an afterthought to ESPN and Fox.

There was talks of adding a semi final to the conference championship game long before the talk of 4 autobids just due to size of the conferences. Would have been perfect for the Big12 this last year too, although I’m not complaining about winning the tie breaker(this time) to make it.

Semifinals are a bit different as they happen on a different weekend and wouldn’t overshadow the Big12 CCG. I guess I’m looking at this more from a conference thing than an ISU thing.

Per Dellinger, ESPN is sublicensing one semifinal to TNT.
Yeah, great for ESPN's cash flow but another example of how the P4 conferences are getting effed over by the CFP with ESPN being the sole bidder for the existing and renewal CFP contract. Millions of dollars being left on the table with them being sole bidder and the existing/proposed CFP schedule needlessly conflicting with NFL programming:

Idk something about this smells funny. If the CFP is that profitable, I don't see why ESPN would sell ANY games off, let alone a semi-final. So either TNT offered way more than they should have, or, as I suspect, ESPN has bit off more than they can chew (or pay) and are scrambling to cover it.

Or I could go super conspiratorial and say they are scheming with the SEC to blow it all up

Oh, it definitely smells and it's a complete travesty not only with the CFP contract but with the bifurcated conference deals as well which have triggered irrational geographic realignment and PAC/ORSt/Wazzu destruction.

Hopefully, the public noise for media rights aggregation will increase even more (beyond Cody Campbell and JP) with this latest BS from ESPN.

I was told it was billions being left on the table.

You know who produced the CFP games on TNT last season?

ESPN. Those were literally ESPN broadcasts top to bottom, just with a TNT logo slapped on.

It's a sublicense.

Who claimed it isn't a sublicense?

It's not surprising that CFB is the only sport so effed up that their premium playoff games get sublicensed. Doesn't happen in the NFL and NBA.

Been away from following the CFP news for about a week. It was trending 5+11, supported by the Big 12. I now see the Big 10 and Fox has sent their media minions to attack the Big 12.

The last update I’ve seen is that the SEC would prefer no auto-bids at all and the BigTen is threatening to not agree to anything until the SEC adds a 9th conference game.

I’m sure it will change a dozen more times before they finally settle on something.

The more likely scenario is the games weren’t as profitable as they hoped. The ratings weren’t that great last year. Sublicensing helps the margins.

I said it at the time, ESPN needs the ratings to be a lot higher than they were last year

Playoffs went too long. I didn't even know the final game was on until that morning. I was already in the NFL mode.
