I've said it for years, Barnes and Thad Matta have done so little with the talent they've had, it's almost criminal.

Nobody does less with more than Rick Barnes, please don't fire him.

Gregg Marshall would be my top pick, though who knows if he leaves. Goes without saying that they need a young-ish, charismatic leader type who plays an exciting brand. If it wasn't unpossible, Fred would be their dream hire (it's unpossible).
Did you mean their "dreamy" hire?

Texas 1-10 against RPI top 50. How are they "in" the tourney? Name recognition?
If the situation were reversed and we were the team that was 1-10 vs RPI top 50, there'd probably be nary a word said about us. But hey, it's Texa$, and money talks. I'm actually torn about Texas this year. In some ways I'd love nothing more than the 'Horns to lose a bunch more and not make the tourney. Perhaps that sends a statement to some of these big-time recruits : "the name of the school doesn't guarantee that you will receive top coaching." On the other hand, I'd like to see our league well-represented in the tourney.

Now that we've swept them in the regular season, I say go Texas. It would be nice if they could go on the road and beat Kansas. I'm not sure if the Oklahoma game was enough to make the players give up though.

Of course even if they make the tournament they will likely embarrass the conference much like they and Kansas did last year.

And you are right, if we were 1-10 against the top 50, not only would the national media be dismissing us, our fans would be too. I will say, though, that Hoiberg has brought enough respect to the program that the national media is starting to give us the benefit of the doubt.

Seems like we have this discussion about Rick Barnes being on the hot seat every year this time of year. One of these years we're not going to have this discussion - because he won't be coaching at Texas.

To be fair, UT had a lot of well-placed hype coming into the year, which is still carrying them.

I definitely want UT to make it. For one, we swept them and it would likely bell knock KU down. But more importantly UT getting in as bubble team is ideal for the conference. They can't choke due to the bad seed, but they have a team that could make a run...and keep Barnes at UT.

That game thread of there's was quiet an entertaining read. They really hate Barnes, and Felix. Man do they hate Felix.

But he has such a good game plan. Hold the ball on offense in one players hands as long as possible. Pass the ball a few times when needed, but don't look to shoot out of those passes, get it back to the PG as soon as possible, keep the ball out of the guys that can score as much as possible and throw a shot in with 10 on the shot clock. If all else fails start fouling with 4 mins left, to try to make the other team beat you at the line.

Texas seems to do this a lot. They wait till they have to win; then they win and get in. Good news is Kansas is on their schedule. That could be the biggest big 12 game of the year. A lot riding on it.

I usually hate when people compare conferences because it doesn't make sense to me (comparing a bunch of teams who haven't played each other - or only played in the pre season when its kind of a crapshoot) but I think Texas would be in 2nd place in the big 10.

my favorite and also true:
Kevin Durant has had Rick Barnes and Scott Brooks as his coaches during his high level basketball career. It's a credit to him personally that he knows which basket to shoot toward.

It's not Felix's fault that they rely on him so much. At best, he should be a solid 15-20 minute role player. I saw them earlier this year, and I remarked at the time that they have huge problems if they are running plays for him just to stay in the game.
