I completed this project last year, but it is one that always needs revisited. I have a list of current Cyclones that I think need considered since the last time I put this out.

The premise is simple, select the best Cyclone Football player to wear each number 1-99. Only one player per number, no exceptions. The roster can always be changed if there is enough support.

2011 Nominations

#2 Steele Jantz ... QB ... Agoura Hills, California
#19 Josh Lenz ... WR ... Dubuque, Iowa
#20 Jake Knott ... LB ... Waukee, Iowa
#23 Leonard Johnson ... CB ... Clearwater, Florida
#72 Kelechi Osemele ... T ... Houston, Texas
#97 Stephen Ruempolhamer ... DT ... Tulsa, Oklahoma

What do you think? Have these Cyclones done enough to make the All-Time Roster?

Other nominations from current or past teams are also always welcome!

My thoughts ...

#2 Steele Jantz ... I'm guessing he will have great support after only 2 games, but my first thought is to wait. Ennis Haywood was a special player who had a great career. The 'Man of Steele' has had five great quarters.

#19 Josh Lenz ... Although only a junior, I think Lenz may have done enough already to surpass Craig Campbell, but it's close. I have no doubt that Lenz will eventually surpass CC, but has he earned it yet?

#20 Jake Knott ... To me, this is a no brainer. He has earned it. Knott is the best to ever wear #20 at ISU in my opinion. Agree?

#23 Leonard Johnson ... Another tough call. What do you say?

#72 Kelechi Osemele ... KO certainly is good enough to be on the roster, but there are certain numbers that are tough to get in on. Gene Williams was really good. Is KO better?

#97 Stephen Ruempolhamer ... Conversely, there are some numbers much easier to get on this team. This is one where Dutch might have already earned a spot.

Don't remember what # he was, but David Archer should be given strong consideration. 3rd most TD's in a signle season, 3rd most pass completions in a season, and 8th best completion %.

Without looking it up, Archer wore either #16 or #18 ... I honestly don't remember right now somehow ... but he either didn't beat out Dwight Nichols at #16 or Sage Rosenfels at #18.

Can anyone help me out with what number Archer wore at ISU?

Thank you! I was having a brain fart, and I don't have my book with me today.

The reason we ultimately went with Sage over Archer was winning.

Similar NFL carerers, but Sage won 9 games in 2000 and the first ISU bowl game in 22 years. Archer didn't win 9 games as a Cyclone.

Don't know why I thought his number was 14. Anyway, yep I'd probably say Sage over David too.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Archer didn't win 9 games as a Cyclone.

8-13-1 in his 2 years. Defense didn't do him any favors, especially in '83 (allowed 35.0 ppg).

Archer fun fact: In 4 years of college football, he had 4 different head coaches.

Bruce Reimers needs to be on the all-time list. He played a decade or so in the NFL (Bengals & Bucs) and was inducted into ISU's hall of fame a few years ago. He played in the Super Bowl against the 49ers and almost won it if it wasn't for Montana's heroics...

Again, I don't have my book or notes with me today ... but I'm pretty sure Bruce wore another of those numbers with multiple All-Americans.

Anyone remember?

----

I found it. Bruce wore #72 along with Gene Williams, and now Kelechi Osemele

Debate that one Cyclone fans! Who should be #72 on our list?

KO is in... he is arguably one of the best OL we have ever had. Jake Knott is in at #20. LJ hasn't done enough to unseat Tom Watkins. Steele ABSOLUTELY HAS NOT done enough to unseat Ennis Haywood.... Ennis was a BEAST for us....

Gene Williams was First Team All-Big Eight twice and an All-American. KO's never even been First Team All-Big Twelve once. Gene stays.
