I’m guessing he will look to bolt to Wisconsin. I doubt he’s the head coach in 6 years because that’s the way it goes here.
Just curious why do you think he is so high up on going to coach at Wisconsin? If he is here for 6 years and has success to be looked at for the position won’t he had been at Iowa State a total of 18 years ? Look how he’s left now a few times and wanting to be back here....? And I also look at it all in this angle . We are building the infrastructure here too in this time period let’s hope the Ames version of the power and light district is in progress and either built or started and all the enhancements and upgrades done to
Hilton and we have success back in the program who’s to say if it’s still TJ or a bigger coach at that point. We have a ton of upside that will be happening here in the next 10 years.

You mean getting a top recruit, winning a national championship, then going 11-14 the next 2 years and getting fired only to be out of a job for a few years and then get hired as an assistant for 2 seasons only to resign and not have a coaching job for the last 3+ years?

Key words: National Championship

We don’t need to win the press conference but can we let Texas Tech out do us?

“ Texas Tech sent two private planes to transport Chris Beard from Las Vegas to Lubbock just because it could. Iowa State, despite existing within a Power Five conference, might lack the means or want-to for such extravagance.”.

The pressure is on for J-Stanz in this moment, haha. Really would like to hear a pod tomorrow or when possible from the brightest minds of Iowa State fandom.
Think they will wait until is official. So far there has been one LV source that just changed their article with some fine print.

Once again it might end up being TJ, but there is nothing official yet people. Relax and let’s wait it out. No reason to stress out or overreact on rumors. Have a good night everyone.

That would be nice - but also "one hit wonder." Gene Chizik didn't win the national championship because of his amazing coaching ability. He won because he had players like Cam Newton. There's a reason why he went 11-14 once Cam Newton went to the NFL and nobody wants him since as a head coach at any power conference school.

We should strive for a coach that actually builds a program year in and year out, and wasn't a one hit wonder because they won the lottery recruiting one player, once.

People, People, People!! Take some deep breaths and relax. Who knows if this is a done deal or not. Haven't heard from Jamie and haven't seen it posted by any Iowa media outlets.

That said, hiring a head coach is like the lottery. Long odds to hire the next coach K.

We're just hoping for the $10 ticket and not a loser.
  • Look at Indiana. I'm sure their fans were on Cloud Nine when they hired Archie Miller. How did that turn out?
  • Did Wisconsin fans think they had a great coach when Greg Gard was hired?
  • Same goes for Okie State with Boynton. A guy with no head coaching experience gets them to the dance. They have a great team, beyond Cunningham.
Hell just look at EIU. When Hayden retired their fan base was all about Stoops. Prodigal son comes home. Then some unknown coach from Maine name Kirk Ferentz is hired. 20+ years later they have the most successful coach in their football history. (I know Evy was probably a better coach, but before my time).

Sleep well, the sun will come up tomorrow.

Best post of the day!!!!

I’d bet my considerable savings it’s TJ.

A couple of points... One, UNLV could have leaked this to let it get out there that the job might be available. Gotta believe that if they wanted to keep him, they would have been in the process of putting together a counter.

Two, the possibility of this happening surfaced not this week or even within the last month. It started at the end of last season. Anyone who doesn't believe agents representing the interested haven't been sending feelers out to Pollard over the last year are naive. I have no doubt that the interested have sent feelers to Pollard even before Prohm was released.

If it is TJ, it's anything but a hasty move. It's one that's been long planned.

All I know is that for what we can, or more appropriately, what we will spend, he as good or better than anyone else we would get.

We can get him on the (relative) cheap and he'll trust Pollard to take care of him.

ISU is never going to have a home run hire. There will always be doubts about any incoming coach. TJ knows the program and how to recruit to ISU. Considering that basically no one has been successful at UNLV since Lon Krueger I don’t think it’s a completely accurate gage of his coaching abilities. I expect some growing pains but am optimistic about this hire.

Dave Rice was 98-54 at UNLV he put like 7 guys in the NBA. He is a bit of a Prohm story, in the sense he won like 50+ games his first couple of years but kind of tanked after that.. Some underated coaches in MW as well. Nevada Reno and SDSU had some really good teams over the past few years.

So did Prohm. Cmon, be better than that.

TJ may work out but the pedantic replies to legitimate questions re: what makes him the best for the job just prove that it’s a major reach. It may well work, but it’s a reach. Hope it works out. Would be cool if it does.
He’s a fit right now.
  • The program just went winless in conference, it can’t be much worse
  • Covid blew a hole in the athletic dept budget
  • Other high-profile openings in the Midwest (Indiana, MN)
  • He comes relatively cheap until he proves himself
  • He has deep ties to ISU and wants to be in Ames
  • He proven success recruiting to Ames

It might very well be. I just won’t have a stroke like some on here or talk about the hiring process until something official happens. Just watching some posters here makes me exhausted, can’t even imagine living like that.

If true, it is a weak hire. If you want to build momentum in a slumping program, you don't quickly hire a .500 coach from a mid major program. For crying out loud, are we Iowa State or Indiana State? It looks cheap and third tier.....I remember the late 70's ISU Basketball. Johnny Orr built something out of that. He was from MICHIGAN! Why are settling for TJ? He doesn't deserve to coach at a Major D1 program...yet. This says winning doesn't matter.
