Does anyone honestly think that they know better or want to win more than prohm? He knows what small brings and doesn't bring to the table.

I love it how idiot fans think that they are the only ones that know anything about how a freaking assistant is doing their job.

Most of these kids from the South will be hard to keep, IMO. Part of the problem is the strategy.

I think you can probably just summarize it as most of the kids from AAU. Not sure it matters what location they are from.

Basically ALL kids play AAU now, regardless of where they're from. AAU definitely has more pull in certain areas of the country, although that's not really my point.

I just think recruiting kids from the South to Iowa is tough, regardless. Weather and culture make for a tough sell, and there will be lots of people in their ear telling them to go somewhere else, or asking "Why would you go all the way to IOWA to play basketball?"

If we get one kid a year out of the south you have to consider that a huge success.

Never claimed to know more than Prohm or Small. I don't blame Small for McNeill (fluke thing) or Juiston ($/handlers) but he's landed 1 kid in the last year (Lard) and he showed up a semester late.

Be it bad luck, skill, salesmanship, etc. the fact of the matter is Small hasn't landed his targets this last year.

I'm hopeful Small will have a good 2017-18 and I think he could utilize some of his southern connections to help land us a transfer or two thing spring (Mario Kegler)

I guarantee that there are some on here who honestly believe they know more

Well, Jakolby can be considered South (Oklahoma). And just as a counterargument, Solomon was from Cali, right? You think that'd be harder to recruit than the South.

Oklahoma and Texas are similar to the south to some degree, but still quite different than the SEC states, in my experience. Plus they're already more familiar due to the B12.

West coast is totally different. Still not easy to recruit from, but different than the SEC mentality.

I'm not saying it can't be done (see football), but I'm pretty sure Small isn't good enough to close that gap consistently.

Bud Lite needs an updated Real Men of Genius commercial, not for sports hecklers but for internet sports board posters. ;)

how dare anyone ever question whether an assistant is a good recruiter!!! That is blasphemy! People are basically saying they hate Prohm by questioning an assistant and that is not ok with me! If you don't have anything but positive things to say on this message board, then don't say anything at all. Especially if you are an idiot fan.

I would think we could hit Oklahoma and Texas and have lots of success since we play 6 times a year down there.

That's what still makes me wonder what in the world McNeil is up to? He's from Texas, so his family and friends would get to see him play a lot if he went to ISU. At Cal, they likely will hardly ever get to see him play.

Daniyal Robinson thinks that's a bad year.

Small is definitely in the running for the Honor Before Victory assistant coach of the year award for great effort.

Hard to judge Small's year. McNeill and Juiston's recruitment wasn't exactly normal. If anything the efforts would have been better suited to Daniyal Robinson. The guy has brought next to nothing recruiting wise and its not any different than his days here under McDermott.

I think about it this way. I can't play the piano, no piano skills at all. What I can do is sit in the audience and listen to a someone play the piano. Now I may not be able to tell if the piano player is world class or just really, really good but what I can tell you is if they are just plain bad.

Small and DRob are bad piano players.
