That's ugly.

Hines must have gotten a job out of State because with that article he didn't burn bridges with the AD he dropped an ATOM Bomb on those bridges.

If even HALF of that is true then my opinion of Pollard will be extremely low. And unfortunately I have no reason to believe it isn't true.

When basketball is the sport that currently defines this university the best, you have to spend some money to keep it that way and build off of it.

If accurate, my opinion of JP dropped big time.

I've lost feeling in my extremities. So frustrating. Pollard is a loser.

I love the Prohm hire, but garbage like this will make it extremely difficult for him to maintain a program as well.

If what the sources said about Fred staying if the relationship wasn't so sour, I would be 100% fine with firing Pollard. He has done some great things for ISU, but running a top 10 coach out of Ames is unacceptable.

I do hate the timing of it though since the season is just a month away. Write this in June or July please.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

If this is true, it truly pisses me off, as it should any ISU MBB fan. Unfortunately, I can see where Jamie's ego could get in the way of things, and he would handle things this way. Totally unprofessional, and the fans of ISU deserve much better, as did Fred.

Jamie has done some great things in terms of the financial development of the programs, and the improvement of the facilities, but when it comes to hiring and keeping coaches around, I don't think anyone would say he has had great success. If he cannot deal with the popularity and success of coaches under him, that is a horrible situation for ISU. Hopefully an article like this will make him realize the errors he has made and he will do things much, much better. If not, then he is the next one that needs to go......and the sooner the better for ISU.

Like many, I thought coaches like Cael and Fred would be at ISU for at least 10 years, if not their entire careers. If this is true, and JP treated Fred of all people this way......imagine what Cael may have gone through. You can't treat any of your subordinates this way, and especially not your most important subordinates. You are just inviting failure.

Fred helped to change the recruiting practices of college basketball with his recruitment and acceptance of transfers, and with the success he had with them......and JP wants to end the practice? Why?

A lot of this just seems to me to be JP's ego and arrogance, which we have all seen displayed numerous times, sometimes in an embarrassing manner. He has done some great things, but a lot of the success that can be attributed to him was because of the success of his coaches. Yet, that success almost seems to bother him or something.....if they get more attention than he does. That is not an AD anyone wants.

I almost wish I had never read the article.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Very interesting read.

Seems like a lot of sources confirmed some of this info...I hope JP treats all coaches/programs appropriately/fairly (not playing favorites), but also hope he doesn't nickel and dime...and didn't work with Fred and his staff when requests were not out of line.
While I agree that in a perfect world JP shouldn't play favorites, if any coach/program at ISU deserved to be a favorite, it would certainly be MBB & Fred. Why even risk burning a bridge with Fred? I've always been a JP fan, but if this stuff is true my opinions will be greatly changed.

With this and the CPR contract keeping the football program in the dumps, JP isn't doing himself any favors. Maybe he just needs to step away and worry about his health.

Re: Hoiberg and ISU admin relationship

This doesn't seem that out-of-the-norm to me:

The morning after winning the tournament, ISU administration told the Cyclones to check out of their hotel rooms to save a night’s charges even though they wouldn’t depart for hours, according to sources.“It was an incredibly cheap move,” a source said. Many players and staff spent their downtime in a ballroom filled with luggage, bodies and even the ceremonial paddles that were awarded to players as all-tournament trophies.

What does the second sentence in this paragraph even mean? It looks like an incomplete sentence to me:

One issue was a change requiring assistant coaches to pay for home game tickets in 2014-15, which were previously provided free of charge. The athletic department insinuated it would like to see the transfer model, which jump-started and sustained ISU’s success by bringing in players such as Royce White, Will Clyburn and DeAndre Kane, curtailed, sources said.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

You can talk the talk about wanting to be a first class program, but making people sleep in a ballroom to save a ew bucks is second class.

He kind of danced around it, but the impression I got wasn't that they were made to sleep on the floor of a hotel lobby for a night or something like that. The impression I got was that the return flight was a late afternoon or evening flight and the AD made them check out that morning rather than pay for an extra night when they only needed it for a few hours and the players spent the afternoon lounging around the hotel with their luggage.

I'm not defending it, I just think Hines intentionally left that vague.

Start pitching in money for a Fire Pollard banner to be flown over football games?

hmm..run off the best thing that ever happend to Iowa State, as far as making us a name. Yet keep a coach who has won 6 games in 3 years. Makes a whole lot of sense.

It's a long sentence, but complete. It basically says the AD didn't want as many transfers going forward.

I wouldn't be surprised if Travis was working on this since spring. You don't print that unless you 100% have faith it is true. It says they talked to multiple sources both outside and inside the athletic dept. You don't whip that up in a couple weeks.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

JP almost lost me when he was unable to retain Sanderson. Even though I'm not a wrestling fan, I know how important it is to our university identity and our fan base.

He had sort of redeemed himself in my eyes over the years but if a single one of these claims are true -- and I don't believe they're ALL made up -- I'm done with him.
