I believe Hines 100%

Hines isn't lying, the sources obviously are coming from the Hoiberg side of this but I wonder what made this all come out.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

If what the sources said about Fred staying if the relationship wasn't so sour, I would be 100% fine with firing Pollard. He has done some great things for ISU, but running a top 10 coach out of Ames is unacceptable.

A top 10 coach who also happens to be the FREAKING MAYOR. Like I said, hope he wasn't actually jealous of Fred, if so he truly didn't understand what Fred and his legacy mean to this fan base

The whole Fred to the NBA thing was sold to the fans as inevitable. Apparently it wasn't. Solid job Pollard.

Re: Hoiberg and ISU admin relationship

This doesn't seem that out-of-the-norm to me:

The morning after winning the tournament, ISU administration told the Cyclones to check out of their hotel rooms to save a night’s charges even though they wouldn’t depart for hours, according to sources.“It was an incredibly cheap move,” a source said. Many players and staff spent their downtime in a ballroom filled with luggage, bodies and even the ceremonial paddles that were awarded to players as all-tournament trophies.

What does the second sentence in this paragraph even mean? It looks like an incomplete sentence to me:

One issue was a change requiring assistant coaches to pay for home game tickets in 2014-15, which were previously provided free of charge. The athletic department insinuated it would like to see the transfer model, which jump-started and sustained ISU’s success by bringing in players such as Royce White, Will Clyburn and DeAndre Kane, curtailed, sources said.

It means they wanted Hoiberg to stop with the transfers despite the transfer model being successful.

Another classic Pollard move. You could tell that Pollard wasn't sad to see him go bc he didn't even try to keep him.
I thought all the ticket stuff was bush league when he said it. It's not necessary to say that. All he is worried about is making money. And the transfer thing is just ridiculous. He probably was mad bc he looked so stupid after what he said about transfers during the McD era. I don't think he has much time left at ISU. I think the president stepping in on the coaching search was a sign that he doesn't fully trust Pollard.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

They didn't spend a night in the ball room, the article states that they slept in the ball room for hours (whatever that means) I assume after check-out time and before they were coming back home to avoid being charged for another day of stay, which is not unreasonable at all. We are probably talking about a time frame after 10 or 11 AM check out.

Not sure what to think of the rest of the article. If true, Pollard has some things to work on. Seeing how the above situation was sensationalized by the author, I am having a harder time believing the rest of the article is 100% and not sensationalized.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I immediately thought back to some of the chatter/rumors of Pollard wanting to be quick and cheap on the hire for Hoiberg's replacement, and the President of the University pushing to explore all $$$ options. This report just solidifies that asinine thinking/approach, and is going to swiftly sour the fanbase to Pollard, despite his good fundraising track-record.

Props to Hines on this in-depth reporting. His job is to report, not to have Pollard like him.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

If this is true, it truly pisses me off, as it should any ISU MBB fan. Unfortunately, I can see where Jamie's ego could get in the way of things, and he would handle things this way. Totally unprofessional, and the fans of ISU deserve much better, as did Fred.

Jamie has done some great things in terms of the financial development of the programs, and the improvement of the facilities, but when it comes to hiring and keeping coaches around, I don't think anyone would say he has had great success. If he cannot deal with the popularity and success of coaches under him, that is a horrible situation for ISU. Hopefully an article like this will make him realize the errors he has made and he will do things much, much better. If not, then he is the next one that needs to go......and the sooner the better for ISU.

I almost wish I had never read the article.

This is a dumb analogy, but think about your vehicle. You should take care of/maintain all vehicles (i.e. coaches) no matter their blue book value (oil changes, washing them, maintenance)....but, if you have a high dollar car, you put in premium fuel, make sure it's in the garage protected, buy it the best parts, etc). I know, dumb...but you have to know what you got and make sure you are providing for it at the level needed.

Well, as was oft repeated but for some reason not believed by most of the fanbase, the first we heard about the Bulls being Hoibergs dream job wasn't "day 1" but instead the day the rumors of him going to the bulls came out.

I missed the word "curtailed" in that sentence when I first read it, which is why it looked like an incomplete sentence to me. My bad.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

I wouldn't be surprised if Travis was working on this since spring. You don't print that unless you 100% have faith it is true. It says they talked to multiple sources both outside and inside the athletic dept. You don't whip that up in a couple weeks.

Yeah, I know. It still sucks this will be the biggest topic leading into media day.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Interesting. jamie had one job and that was to keep Fred here.

Some me of the complaints seem to be legit. Some are probably not. Iowa state does work within a budget and doesn't have unlimited money like the Bulls do. The Hawaii hotel thing sounds stupid but it's a part of a day. The families at the ncaa is dumb.

the stupid part is Fred easily could have gotten what he wanted. Go to leath, go public with some comments. It's easy to play the victim when you have assistants talking to the press.

And i I think Fred was worth more than he was paid. But he got raises every year.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Insinuating that this is why Fred left is pretty silly. I honestly don't see much here. Yes there were some mistakes but none of this leads me to believe there was a major schism between Fred and the athletic department.

Re: Hoiberg and ISU admin relationship

It's a long sentence, but complete. It basically says the AD didn't want as many transfers going forward.

Yeah that's my bad, I didn't see "curtailed" in there when I first read it.
