For anyone who didn't see the local news here in Ames (which I assume is pretty much all of you), they covered the game and got a LOT of footage of the fiasco after the game. Their segment on it showed their camera guy attempting to interview/distract UNLV's coach as he flew into the Jacobson Building, chasing down the referees. The refs make a break for it, escaping with just a verbal beating, and the cameraguy follows Mr. Crazy Coach down the stairs, screaming at the top of his lungs all the while, back onto the field. He charges the turf, berating everyone in sight and heads back to his team. He is screaming the entire time.
Meanwhile 5 UNLV players (3 starters, I think) sprint out to the middle of the 50 and start jumping up and down on Cy's face on the field and gesturing that they are "number 1". I think it was supposed to be intimidating, but it just looked ********.
The coach gets back to his team, and I lost track of exactly what happened there, but a couple of minutes later, one of the UNLV whips his helmet off, spikes it to the ground, and starts stomping on it as hard as he can. The Rebels FINALLY left the field (to ISU Fights, I might add) almost 15 minutes after the Cyclones were gone. I have never seen worse sportsmanship at the collegiate level in my life. That was absolutely despicable.
I must say, though, that both the student section and the band were coming up with some pretty good cheers all night long. (Among others, "Let's play football" towards the end of the Eternal Video Review, and "The band is hungry" when UNLV wouldn't leave.) It was a frustrating game, thanks largely to the awful officiating, but it was fun. Let's make our record 3-0 next week!
