Poor old Nebraska

Disagree. If you asked their fans whether they'd want to go back to their glory years of being a national championship contender every year but not being in the Big 10/SEC OR cashing huge Big 10 media paychecks but having 6 win seasons, they'd choose the former hands down.

I'm not saying they'd be a whole lot better if they were in the Big 12 (pretty confident they wouldn't be). I'm saying winning trumps everything, including money.

The CU game was the one that broke the program but it took until the season of this KU game for most of their fans to realize it. The post game reaction call in shows were great during that season, the KU game might be the saddest one of all time. There were grown men calling in holding back tears. Funny thing is, KU could've put up 100 if they wanted.

Everybody forgets how much they’d been struggling in the B12, then ran to the B1G and immediately won their division.

I don't know why I remember this and you can never tell how things are actually going from a few clips from camp but I do remember seeing some short clips from their '02 camp on some pre-season who and for some reason you could just tell things were different, and then they really just weren't good in '02.

Ebbed and flowed a bit throughout the 2000s with a couple of decent teams but even with Pelini still weren't NEBRASKA well before the move to the B1G.

Their first B1G game was getting swamped by a very good WI team which only added to the 'welcome to the B1G' narrative but even that season they won 9 games including rolling Iowa and a good Michigan State team.

What do university general fund cuts have to do with Nebraska’s stadium renovation? Whats the context here?

Let's not forget losing to Northwestern that season.

I was living in Omaha at the time and was very, VERY entertained.

They were still decent year 2 but then the southern states recruiting pipeline drying up really hit home. Also, those first two seasons were not the pathetically bad b1g west skeds either.

Some folks have gone on a tangent whether NEB is good or not; missing the point...

The basic facts are UNL the school has been facing budget cuts due to decreasing state support and declining enrollment. About 100M over the last ~5 years and it was announced an additional 30M is needed to be cut.

Sometime around 2022, NEB the AD announced a major memorial stadium overhaul or renovation to the price tag of 450M. Reading between the lines and the obvious lack of starting...fundraising to pay for this was slow. Yesterday it was announced it was delayed indefinitely because of the optics of the school facing so many budget cuts (jobs/departments lost etc).

It's hard not to see potentially similarities to ISU regardless of on field success. UNL the school is hurting financially, despite NEB the AD having plenty of fans and sellouts even in down years. ISU doesn't have the cash flow of the NEB the AD so if NEB the AD is cutting back; it's only a matter of time for it to hit ISU. How and why it hits will be different. NE and IA are different states with different college setups. but colleges are hurting in general. Can debate how good NEB is and when they became mid all we want buts irrelevant to the financial convo
 
Didn’t know that Iowa State has 7,000 more in enrollment than the Lincoln campus and that UNL lost 3,000 students from 2017 to 2024. How many are they going to lose when the enrollment cliff hits?

Its kind of fitting that Alberts went to aTm because they are kind of similar schools ego wise with their money spent and the returns they get.
