Obviously Gray shirting happens but it comes off as "lets wait until we see who else we are going to get and then we will let you know that we want you to Grayshirt you". I live close to where this kid goes to school and have seen him play. I am no talent expert but this kid has a big frame and is athletic, similar to Sean Foster who played at a high school right down the road.

To me CMC is asking this recruit to do what he asks all his players to do - do what is best for the program as a whole. If this recruit doesn't want to do that than maybe he isn't the type of player that will commit to the team concept CMC is wanting.

Aside from the fact that he's literally asking someone to give up $10K plus, it would be absurd to ask someone who isn't on the team to put the team before his own interests.

Made some more calls this morning ... one source doesn't know where Jost got the JUCO stuff from so keep that in the back of your mind.

I honestly don't know though.

My gut tells me they will sniff out a JUCO or two if they can find them. After watching this year's line, you can't blame the staff for wanting some more immediate help.

However as we all know, JUCO's basically have a 1 in 3 chance of working out up front anyway.

So maybe the staff is feeling really good about Munford and/or Chandler.

In any scenario the staff will look foolish if they get nothing. Munford. Chandler. White or Hariz would suffice. Hope they did not put squeeze on kid with a take it or leave it impression. Another fiasco like this year and CMC nay feel heat from donors. Channeling PR is not road to long term success.

How is he channeling PR? PR couldn't recruit, never got depth, missed on almost everyone, and relied on projects. While it sucks that Tyler left, there is a reason they asked him to greyshirt. You know who else does grey shirts? The big boys, if we want to get to the top we better act like we are at the top. Yes we are not Alabama but Its clear CMC wants to win now. We should actually have a strong team next year and maybe they felt like Tyler couldn't contribute next year. Maybe they think we are getting a big OL commit or maybe a star JUCO commit. I trust what CMC is doing if he was willing to ask him to take a greyshirt. He has something up his sleeve.

I have no idea how good Tyler Jost is or will eventually be ... I would throw the offensive line "rankings" around pretty loosely though if I were you guys. It's a brutal position to evaluate. Nobody really knows.
Don't tell us what to do!

Like I said earlier, maybe they lost a scholarship or 2 available and felt he was the best option of commits to gray shirt? lots of time between now and Feb, unfortunately

Actually he is not giving up anything but time. A Greyshirt merely waits until the second semester to enroll full time. They can either wait or attend part time at their own expense. But if they choose to just wait it does not cost them money, just the delay in time.

Tyler Jost obviously does not want to greyshirt and so he can check out his other options. Tyler has 2 and 1/2 months to check things out. Many schools only notify you at the last minute.

CMC is trying to turn this ship around. CMC had commitments from three HS offensive lineman. I'm sure he liked all the guys, but the fact is he needs some guys that can play or at least compete to play next year. It just seems like he was looking to push one of the kids that will take a year or two to develop into the 2018 class.

If the kid has other options, he will be committed in short time. The staff gave him TONS of time to take more visits and make a decision elsewhere. If he doesn't land at a P5 that sucks for him but, to be frank, it will be blatantly obvious that the staff did the right thing.

How is this in any way, related to Iowa? Iowa offers grayshirts to many kids, they don't offer a scholarship, then pull and ask them to gray shirt.

No they just tell them not to come on their visits since they are visiting other schools.

Geez, listen to all the teeth gnashing. This is big boy football, recruiting to win. This isn't unusual at all.

Also I think we had too many mid level hs ol recruits in the class, given that we are after a couple prime recruits, and still need a couple JC OL too.

Syracuse only other decent offer.

Total **** move by the staff. The kid has been committed for a long time and shut down his recruitment by other schools to honor that commitment. Campbell and staff decided to see if they could have their cake and eat it too, at the kid's expense. I don't like it one bit.

Clearly they aren't high on him anymore and the JUCO thing was something was a way to try and let him down easy.

I dunno... what if they are still high on him but figure his value to the program is more years down the road than the actual need that has been on display?

CMC isn't taking money away from the kid. He is offering the exact same amount about 4 months later. The kid could see it as more time in the program to become game-day ready WHILE HAVING HIS ENTIRE COLLEGE EDUCATION FUNDED FOR FREE!...
