Here is what the Penn State fans have been saying about Bolton's transfer. You will find some insightful comments, interesting comments, and downright dumb comments. So similar to what we see every day on CF :D

https://forum.pennstatehoops.com/t/bolton-enters-transfer-portal/5926/206

Man, that program is reeling right now. Remember when we had people claiming no signings in the first two weeks of the spring was a sign of trouble? Sounds like first world problems compared to what these guys are going through.

"Rasir's visit to Ames also featured something else ...

A conversation with former Cyclone and current Denver Nuggets guard Monte Morris."

""He’s in the NBA playoffs — but he’s taking time off to talk to me," Bolton said. "It was pretty cool just talking to him, learning about basketball and how he sees the game because he’s so good — his assist-to-turnover ratio and how he plays, and of course he's in the NBA playoffs. So just trying to get the game from that perspective."

To Ray Bolton, Morris' willingness to spend time helping his former coach recruit a player showed how Prohm forms lasting connections with his guys."

I think its worth noting that Prohm didn't recruit Monte and only coached him for 2 years. That speaks volumes about the guy and how his players feel about him.

What is the reason that he is using to claim the waiver?

Sorry, I have not seen this posted anywhere yet.

Unprofessional or even hostile environment at Penn State, including some Bobby Knight sorts of violent physical contact with players (not Rasir, but on the team, at least).

That might be accurate, but isn't it just speculation at this point?

I am just relaying what has been posted/speculated on here.

I have no inside information or ability to confirm/deny such accusations.

I also have no clear recollection of those events, Senator.

I made it back to page 8 before asking this question, so I feel I have done my due diligence! :)

I understand the NCAA is more lenient on waivers now, but for Bolton it is not like (1) the coach departed after 1st year or (2) as if he did not play much (e.g. an almost redshirt, etc), so what is the basis for the waiver? Is it just this "bad relationship" stuff? Is that enough now? If so, I guess that is why all the articles besides this linked one are pretty circumspect ("...will seek waiver", no further discussion) Hope it works for us!

Though Ray Bolton declined to be specific about the reasons for his son’s transfer when contacted tonight, he did say this much:

“At this point, I want to give Penn State a chance to respond. I can tell you it’s a non-basketball related issue.

“Right now, we’re just trying to get through the process clean and move on to the next destination.”

Ray Bolton emphasized that the academic portion of Rasir’s year at Penn State was not the problem:

“School was great. Academically, the support system was tremendous. There were just some situations that went on throughout the course of the season that were just hard to come back from, as a family.

“I think a fresh start may be the best thing for him.”

I'm trying to figure out what kind of waiver he could get to be immediately eligible. Any speculation or guesses out there?

Lewis was on a bad team in 2017-18 (103rd KenPom) played 27 games avg 3.4 ppg 1.3 rpg and 28% from 3 in 11mpg

Bolton played on the 43rd KenPom team this fall and avg 11.6 ppg 2.0 rpg and shot 36% from 3 in 27 mpg

I continue to be confused when i see people say lewis is/will be better than Bolton.
It's the CF way. Got to prop up a marginal player meanwhile tear down players like Matt Thomas and Nick Babb. If you don't like it then you're ISIS.

You forgot the part how it also means you support Donald Trump and/or were complicit in Jim Crow and the Holocaust, given the way logic twists on the Internet sometimes.

We do always seem to need a good (though maybe not great) player to be the whipping boy, and we do have a streak of that "Iowa's best player is always its backup QB" instinct in us, to try to make some bench/marginal guy into our potential savior.

Rasir Bolton said he didn't make the final decision to pick Iowa State until Tuesday. He took an official visit to Cincinnati first, and he visited Colorado State after Ames. He also had in-home visits with Boston College and UConn. LSU was involved, too.

Like this line, "Rasir said he's talked to Prohm every day since the visit."

Prohm doesn't get enough credit for his savviness in recruiting.

Lets just try and end the speculation right now.

Penn State coach Pat Chambers was suspended in the middle of the season for shoving one his players during a timeout.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ers-suspended-shoving-myles-dread/2486784002/

http://www.espn.com/videohub/video/clip?id=25682845&categoryid=4823314

If a coach is flying off the handle and shoving a player, probably a good bet practices aren't very happy either.

2 years ago the NCAA opened up its waiver process to basically include situations where the player felt they were in a hostile situation.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...ligibility-to-athletes-in-certain-situations/

Two seasons ago, the NCAA relaxed its transfer rules and awarded waivers to players with "documented mitigating circumstances that are outside the student-athlete's control and directly impact the health, safety and well-being of the student-athlete."

Justin Fields is probably the most recent and high profile player to use this new rule to get immediately eligble at Ohio State.

http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...b-justin-fields-play-ohio-state-buckeyes-2019

Its not too hard to understand the angle Bolton is probably going at here with his waiver.
