Michigan State will also be on the market for a grad transfer big guy now. Will be interesting to see if they look at Livingston or Jones

Of course they will.... if it wasn't them, it would be Kansas. I'm not sure but Marvin Clark might have been better than both those grad transfers if he would have stayed. The big guys that wait can sure end up getting interest from multiple big name teams, many of which they wouldn't have even got a sniff from earlier in their career. Must feel like Christmas to them.

Way up there
True, I was just judging from an eye test of warmups which I know is totally unreliable but is the only info I have. To add to this there is no way Prohm was going to pull both their redshirts (Carter and Ernst) if he didn't think one or both had a decent chance to develop into a contributor (in an extremely thin post) later in the year.

If you go by how they played the very little that they did play, Carter looked better than Ernst, if only for the fact that he had some positive plays. Carter at least showed some athleticism and that he could finish near the rim. Ernst played so little we saw nothing good or bad.

I think both grad transfers we've been linked to would be better options than Young next year. A JUCO would probably be the best case scenario because then we wouldn't lose so much after next season but we haven't exactly had great luck with Spring JUCO's before.
I agree, just saying grad transfers want minutes. We don't have a ton. I am not saying they wouldn't be better than young next year. Sure they would. But having a guy for the following year is going to be important. It's a balance. Right now we are likely going to be filing 6 for 17' assuming 5 plus at least 1 attrition. I just don't want to be filling 8 spots.

Best case scenario would be if Dembele was able to contribute a little next season. He has size and four years of eligibility. I think he may be a little raw, but if he was capable of rebounding and being a paint presence next year, he would be a better option than most of the grad transfers.

Agree

On the other hand, Ernst seems less lost on offense and always in the correct position on defense.

He averages a rebound every 5.1 minutes.

Nader got a rebound every 6.1 minutes last year. Georges got a rebound every 5.3 minutes last year.
You are comparing him to two bad rebounders. I don't understand the comparison. Do people who expect him to play post not want a guy to average at least better than Niang and Nader for rebounds? A lot of rainbow riding going on in here.

Call it what you will. I just don't see how they are going to fit all of them on the roster.

Don't lose sleep over it buddy. I guarantee we won't award 14 or 15 scholarships, and then be punished by the NCAA. I promise it will all work out.

We can wishfully think about reeling in Livingston or Davis, Young showing up and being able to play at a high level, or Ernst and Carter improving by leaps and bounds over the summer, but I don't think you can rely on any of those guys to be frontcourt depth next year. Jones may just be an incremental improvement over the 7th or 8th man on the roster, but that's still an improvement.

I want the best players we can get, and that includes character. Worry about the roster later.
