More peripheral news: Providence picked up a commitment from Ricky Ledo this weekend. This puts Providence as the #3 2012 recruiting class at the moment. Coach Ed Cooley is killing it. After Ledo's commitment, speculation immediately started that it has to make them a favorite for Nerlens Noel. Kentucky and UConn also seem to think they are favorites.

...FWIW

Ledo is a timebomb, I hope Noel realizes this. He's been to 4 high schools, won't be graduating, will take his GED to get into Prov., and is a bad teammate. Hey, but he can play.

The rumor is that Noel probably will classify to 2012.

Definitely agree about Ledo here, he did not arrive for the first day(s) at Notre Dame Prep and will not likely attend school at all this year, like you said opting to take the GED instead. With his movement back and forth to schools he will undoubtedly need to apply for a waiver from the NCAA which would take months to be approved, but he plans on being in Providence for the 2nd semester which would likely help his chances for next year...

Either way I don't see Ledo's recruiting doing much for someone like Noel on his decision...

Actually, in the chat a few weeks ago, a Providence fan asked if he [Noel] knew Ledo, and if they had talked about playing together at the next level - possibly at Providence. Noel responded that, "yes, they have talked about it"... Whatever that means.

While I would agree Ledo and his four (actually only 3) HS's in 4 years looks like trouble, we shouldn't forget that we have at least three players on our roster that were at one point labeled as "trouble". The right staff and environment can stabilize that.

PS: I'm in no way attempting to defend Ledo, it might just sound like that. I don't think I would touch him with a ten foot pole if I were a coach.

Not sure what is going on at Huntington Prep today, but at least two national analysts (Evan Daniels of Scout, and Nolan Shulman of Flagrant Fouls) flew in to watch a workout (presumably). Shulman noted that NWC looks stronger than he was earlier this summer.

Wondering if we'll get report of some kind from Daniels...

2012 SF Negus Webster-Chan will take an official visit to Missouri on Sept 16; he visited Iowa State last weekend

I was wondering if anyone heard anything about Chan's visit? I didn't see anything from Chris, but I do realize this is the week of the big game and there has been a lot of Big 12 Conference drama. I REALLY hope he commits!

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but Sherron Dorsey-Walker is visiting Temple this weekend. It's an official visit.

Anyone have a rivals membership want to summarize what Samuel had to say about the visit?

A cryptic tweet suggests that Anfernee Robinson is visiting this weekend. He is a '12 6'-0" guard out of Maryland. waiting for him to confirm.

Interesting that we would have a 6-0 guard visit when we will have Sledge and Lucious. And going after Samuel and Ennis.

Maybe he is a recruited walk on? Couldn't find a Rivals, ESPN or Scout profile.

He's not even a top 25 player in Maryland, so I really have to doubt he's looking at ISU. Probably Drake or even MCC or something

He's a package deal with Gary Payton Jr.

There is no such thing as a package deal. :jimlad:

Definitely mysterious. His only profile is max-preps. He does have a YouTube highlight clip. Definitely doesnt seem like an ISU-type recruit, but fwiw, his tweet did mention "Iowa State". Time will tell what this is...

Mark Miller ( @WisBBYearbook) reports that Iowa State (presumably Hoiberg) used the 1st day of fall contact period to watch Matt Thomas in an open gym.

If that dude kid doesn't commit to us, it won't be because we didn't give it our all.
