Not sure how much interest we currently hold with Nerlens Noel, or how much interest he really has in us, but:

Iowa State #Cyclones interest Nerlens Noel informed Scout this weekend that he is contemplating reclassifying as 2012: Nerlens Noel Says He's Contemplating Joining The 2012 Class | The UK Nation.com

Very smart move on his part if he can pull it off. The new NBA CBA may switch the 1-and-Done to 2-and-Done starting with the Class of 2013. Noel could lose two years of NBA earnings by remaining in the Class of 2013.

He would be even smarter by going to ISU for his one season of college ball

2014 F Chris McCullough was offered by both UConn & West Virginia today, making his list of offers: UConn, West Virginia, St. John's, Syracuse, Rutgers, Hofstra, Temple, Florida, Providence, Iowa St & Seton Hall.

I also expect him to receive an offer from Arizona this week while he is visiting...

I couldnt resist the fun twitter conversations with Niang and Okoro. Tweeted Niang saying he should bring Jaylen Brantley (the sub -6' sharpshooter) and Nerlens with him in October when he visits... Brantley just responded to me saying he would be there... So sounds like another visit - Oct 22!

2013 PG Jaylen Brantley confirms an unofficial visit to the #Cyclones w/ Georges Niang on the weekend of Oct 22

Jaylen Brantley is ranked as one of the top 15 PG by ESPN in the 2013 class and is considered a top 100 player overall by both ESPN & Rivals.. While a bit undersized at 5'9" he has one of the smoothest strokes in the class and is said to be essentially automatic from behind the arc...

Now days it seems the players do half the recruiting.

True. Especially when you have a recruiting specialist like Niang. However, what you don't see on twitter is the staff interactions. Matt/ Fred could have been on the phone with him a lot since July when they offered.

I want a bigger guard, frankly.

I tend to agree. I like the sounds of Okoro: 6'-4" +, Samuel: 6'-3" and growing, NWC: 6'-6" +, etc., but:

1.) Brantley is just starting his JR. year - he should/ could grow a bit more, although not likely to ever be a large guard.

2.) He's a PG, who is reported to be fast, and drain everything from anywhere on the court.

3.) Tavon would be a JR. by the time he would be on campus - a bit of separation amongst the sub-6'ers.

Yes, and besides, there's nothing saying we couldn't take both Brantley and a larger PG too. There are 6 open schollies for '13, right?

Iowa State Mens Basketball Recruiting - Scholarship Breakdown

There are 6 available if we do not sign any additional in the 2012 class, however it definitely appears that we will. So barring anyone leaving, there will be 5 open spots for the 2013 class.

Given most of our 2014 targets appear to be PGs or PFs at this point in time I don't think we'd shy away from Jaylen just because of his (current) height. But that also begs the question, how many guards are we planning on running with?

Time will tell. Our [reported] most intense recruitment seems to focus on PGs/ combo guards, and wings.

We are going to be recruiting guards, guards and more guards. I think we'll eventually see some 4 guard lineups, like Villanova.

With the speed offense we want to run I think we'll see a lot of guards being recruited with very few true centers; I think we would love to see 4 guard lineups to run up and down like Fred wants too...

A 6 man class is too big anyway. We'll sign another '12 and 5 for 2013. Barring attrition, of course.
