Since we got commitments from Monte and Matt does anyone know who we are going to recruit hardest from here on out? Any players that we have a good shot at?

I would love to get Akoy too but I have a very close friend who plays on All Iowa Attack with Akoy and it sounds like UCONN is heads and shoulders above all the other schools. If we could get him on a visit anything's possible but it's not looking too positive for the Clones with Akoy at this point.

UCONN...so, he doesn't want to play for a championship team then I guess...I know, they are only banned for one year, and he'd be freshman when they are 'cleared' again, but it certainly brings questions about a program when you've got a skid mark like that on your shorts...

But then who says kids make wise decisions these days. (Except Thomas and Morris - those 2 have it figured out ;-)

I say one of our top priorities for 2013 should be martez walker. 6-5 SF from Detroit. Played high school and AAU ball with Dorsey-Walker. Being recruited by Iowa, Iowa State, USC, Michigan State, Xavier, Tennessee, Minnesota, DePaul and Providence. We need another wing. At this point we have Okoro at the SF and possibly Ejim.

Here's another recruiting round-up for you with plenty of information over the past few days - Recruit Lists Recruiting Round-Up 6/28

I'm going to be that guy for a minute.

The last time Iowa State had commitments from two Rivals top 150 players? The 2012 signing class with Georges Niang (#69) and Sherron Dorsey-Walker (#125), before then, never!

In 2007 Brackins (#20) and Garrett (#123) and in 2003 Blalock (#74) and Stinson (#127).

For SF's my wish list would be:

1.) Hassan Martin
2.) Martez Walker
3.) Byron Zeigler

It could be argued that Martin will be a PF, and also that Walker is a 2/3 (it seems his specialty at the moment is 3 pt shooting).

Touche... Yes, this would be the fourth year since 2002 that we have had 2 top 150 rivals players.

2 out of those 3 would be great to get. We will need wings for the 2013 and 2014 classes. Every good team has a good wing. I think Ejim will play PF the rest of his career. He can't dribble that well or shoot that well. He is an undersized PF and that's that.

forget rivals, the reality is that most of our recruits were usually only ranked in one of the services. morris and thomas both have the potential to be "consensus" top 100 player on scout, rivals, espn, etc. that hasn't happened before. garrett, stinson, sdw, etc were kind of "fringe" ranked recruits - not that they weren't/could become great players.

For undersized he rebounds and sets screens like the best of them.

O yeah. Works extremely hard to make up for his lack of size. I would prefer a 6'8 PF and 6'10 C but i'm okay with a 6'6 PF that works extremely hard and a 6'9 Center in Gibson. My perfect lineup would be 6'10 C, 6'8 PF, 6'6 SF, 6'4 SG, and 6'2 PG with all positions being 2 players deep. Give it a few years and we will be getting 6'8 PF's and 6'10 C's that are 4 or 5 star big men consistently.

Wow... that is hard to believe. I wonder how many Big 12 teams have only done this so few times?

Guessing TCU and Texas Tech are two that struggle to recruit. Wouldn’t surprise me if they hadn’t had a class like what we are looking at currently.

Colorado and Nebraska prior to this year I doubt did.

Obviously Baylor is on another level now but, before Drew they weren't pulling in Top100 talent, now of course it is top 25.

I am also curious if Oroko would have played AAU ball last summer if he wouldn't have made a jump in the rankings? Offers from Pitt, Zona and Seton Hall seem to indicate a top 150 type player.

Overall it is hard to recruit as well as Fred has done in such a short time. The future looks bright.

I agree would be nice adding some size. Not sure how we will get it. Fred can easily impress the guards with his own shooting ability, the miraculous improvement of DG, and the freedom he gave a 6'8" point forward. Some talented bigs need to give him a chance to show he can get all types to the NBA and we'll reach the promiseland.

According to Stu Whitney (Sioux Falls Argus Leader) the top basketball player in South Dakota has recently picked up offers from Missouri and Iowa State. 2013 6'9" PF Zach Hanson has had plenty of attention with offers already from Gonzaga, Nebraska, Creighton and others. Those three are expected to be the leaders at this point, especially with family ties to Nebraska. May have more on Hanson later on...

Interesting.

You have to know that names of big men will be popping up quickly, now that our top two guard priorities have committed.
