On Big 12 Showcase today (I think that is what the show was called) they showed Barnett passing, and clearly not using the threads on the football. His hands are on the football not the threads! He will never be a good percentage passer if he does not change this unbelievable fundamental error. And, I understand his dad is a football coach.

How about this qb coach, tell him to start using the damn threads.

And, did you know the college fb is larger than the NFL fb. That's what they said.

Was it a screen pass? I think its extremely common to not use threads on quick throws such as these. There is no time to find the threads on throws like these.

Re: WTF re Barnett

I saw it too. They zoomed in on video that clearly shows him throwing without using the laces on his interception and another downfield pass.

You clearly know very little if you think all QB's throw with the laces. Sure most NFL and prostyle offense QB's will. That is because the center snaps them the ball in a manner so that the laces will line up correctly with their fingers. Even some spread quaterbacks who sit in the pocket for a long time (Landry Jones) will do this. With our offense, we run a lot of zone reads and quick passes that do not allow our QB to have time to adjust the ball to his hands.

All NFL QB's do it too. This isn't pee wee football, the laces are a little trick for small hands. If your hands are so small you need the laces in college, you probably shouldn't be playing QB.

I keep looking for jimlad, but don't see him.

EDIT Wow, wouldn't it be awesome if this were the problem? Someone call Mess, tell him to at least give it a try tomorrow. I'll eat a crow, literally, if this is the issue, I will eat a crow.

You can probably ask any QB in the NCAA, and they will say they have thrown a few balls without the laces during a game.

You're going to have what - 1, maybe 2 at most - fingers on the laces when throwing a football, and neither of those fingers are what generate the power behind throwing football.

Yeah, I doubt not holding onto the laces is the reason why our offense sucks so much this year. I would first look at the absolute ****-poor offensive line play, the inability of our receivers to catch passes thrown at them, and poor decisions by the QB before I suggest "OMG - we suck so badly this year because our QB doesn't throw using the laces."

Maybe I don't know anything about football, but here is what I do know. Barnett's completing about 47% of his passes and it's ten times easier to throw with the threads then without, and it takes a microsecond to spin the football to throw with the threads. And, according to you most NFL and prostyle QB's use the threads.
