Keep in mind that this is less about Vaughn than the people around him. Same people probably means no chance. Different people? Maybe?

I still wouldn't see him wanting to spend 3 years in college unless he has horrible draft stock after this year.

Btw i will say this. Vaughn now needs us a crap load more than we need him. I would not have said that in february when he made his choice.

Maybe but this is not a kid that screwed up. This is a kid that screwed over our staff. Its basically like asking if you would take back a crazy ex girlfriend that is hot. Sure she is hot but she already cheated on you once. Would you risk recruting him and getting burned again. I think he is nba bound this year also. So yeah its a moot point but fun to discuss.

It's not exactly the same but we recruited McKay and missed the first time around but we didn't tell him to **** off when things didn't work out for him at Marquette.
And yeah, if a kid that talented reached out to the staff and showed that he has grown up a bit they'd be foolish to not go after him again.

The funny thing is that UNLV isn't very good right now and when they are struggling at the end of the year, and there are only so many games left to show their talents off for scouts, I'm guessing a lot of ME ball and stat sheet stuffing starts to happen instead of trying to win games.

Define horrible draft stock. If he's in the late twenties then it wouldn't take much for him to slide right out of the first round. A first round pick is a guaranteed contract. Second rounders are less likely to stick on a roster, let alone play. His talent alone might keep him projected in the teens but if he slides then he's going to have an interesting decision to make in a few months.

Vaughn is a volume scorer at UNLv right now and everyone knows it, including scouts. If he wants any remote chance of playing in the D league let alone the NBA he better improve his 3pt shot and quickly cause no NBA team is gonna take him in the draft not being a good outside shooter or defender. Right now out of 4 NBA draft sites, only one has Vaughn going in the draft, the other 3 don't even show his name. Vaughn is a 2 in the NBA and u better be one hell of a 3pt shooter to stand a chance.

Mccay was different. Mccay did hose us around. The staff knew where we stood. Vaughn basicslly told the staff he was a clone. We spent a crap load of our recruiting budget and time on him. Quit recruiting other recruits. It was a bad deal.

That's a fair point if we know for sure that it's true. But all that stuff is basically hearsay and speculation that came from guesswork at the crystalball recruiting site and some cryptic tweets from Abdelmassih. Nobody here can say for sure how the final days of recruiting Vaughn went down or who was told what.

RV is costing himself some money by his decision to go to UNLV and play for Rice versus coming to ISU to play for Fred. So I hope he's enjoying the night life in Vegas.

You go to UNLV if you want to party and become a nobody. You come to ISU if you want to get better at playing basketball. Focus Town.

A week ago, UNLV played the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls at a new arena built by the Sanford people, and Sanford paid UNLV to come play the Coyotes. Anyway, I was sitting in the front row, and watching the game, and had the most opportune time to say to Rashad as he walked by me...."you would be both time and money ahead if you signed with Iowa State."

His head just snapped around and he looked at me almost in a shocked, but agreeable facial reply. He wasn't worth a crap the rest of the game. He started coming over after the game, but he had a lot of family there and they intercepted him. I just thought it was funny because he gave me the look like...no crap, I should have gone there.

They play a lot of freshman, and it shows. But there are times where they look really good. Make no doubt about it, had he come, he would have been a good player for us, but he also would t have gone pro his first year, he is t nearly that good..

You're exactly right, I'm guessing he went to the MWC to inflate his stats, and the coach is hoping he might recruit another top pg to fill his space. To date, he is averaging; 40.5% FG, 28.3% 3PT, and an abysmal 63% FT in 31 minutes....numbers that won't get you drafted despite scoring 17.3 pts against watered down competition.

Against 4 teams with a pulse (Stanford, Temple, Arizona State, and Utah) Rashad has averaged an awful; 10pts, 32.3% FG, 10% 3PT, and 56.3% FT in 28 minutes. The devil will be in the details following his match up against #3 Arizona in 2 days...

I understand he's a freshman, but for the #4 SG and #19 in his class...these numbers are not impressive to scouts, nor in the MWC. It's a shame he didn't come to Ames for better exposure and have Fred develop his talent. Most one-and-done players have the mindset of throwing the team under the bus for their personal benefit. I'm not saying Rashad fits the description, but you have to question how his addition may have affected our team chemistry. I'm thrilled we have the #1 pg in Monte, and in the end...I would say everything worked out for the best.
