I take a little enjoyment in UNLV being terrible. Not because of RV though. It's pretty clearly a cooked program and I'm glad they're struggling for that reason.

The butt hurt in this thread is pretty silly. I actually asked Matt and Cornell about this at a event this summer. While they were obviously upset when it happened they are past it now and hold no ill will to him. If they can get over it I think we can.

Watching Vaughn last night, for the first time, I am elated we got BDJ instead of Vaughn. No comparison in terms of what each has to contribute to the team this year.

I have been very happy with BDJ and wouldn't trade him for RV, but to think that Vaughn would have the same kind of numbers playing in this system versus Rice's offense is laughable. Hoiberg is able to take guys and mold the offense to expose their strengths while hiding their weaknesses. Vaughn would do very well in this system.

Most one-and-done players have the mindset of throwing the team under the bus for their personal benefit. I'm not saying Rashad fits the description, but you have to question how his addition may have affected our team chemistry. I'm thrilled we have the #1 pg in Monte, and in the end...I would say everything worked out for the best.

I'm pretty sure that, if Fred can handle this gang...

-Royce White
-Chris Allen
-Corey Lucious
-DeAndre Kane
-Bryce DeJean-Jones

...and make them productive/all-conference/all-American/NBA draftees, in some cases, given they all came with "baggage," I'm thinking he could have handled this one. Heck, BDJ came with a lot more red flags than Vaughn would have ever, and that's working out okay so far (the Halo at 3AM incident notwithstanding).

Plus, I'm pretty sure Niang and Long would have kept him in his place. Either one of those two would make a great replacement for Fred someday.

Vaughn's numbers on offense would go up, but would he be making the same overall impact as BDJ? Bryce looks like a talented 5th year senior out there while RV looks like a talented freshman. Hoiball wouldn't change that aspect.

A week ago, UNLV played the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls at a new arena built by the Sanford people, and Sanford paid UNLV to come play the Coyotes. Anyway, I was sitting in the front row, and watching the game, and had the most opportune time to say to Rashad as he walked by me...."you would be both time and money ahead if you signed with Iowa State."

His head just snapped around and he looked at me almost in a shocked, but agreeable facial reply. He wasn't worth a crap the rest of the game. He started coming over after the game, but he had a lot of family there and they intercepted him. I just thought it was funny because he gave me the look like...no crap, I should have gone there.
I have no reason not to believe you. But it takes some big kahunas to say something like that. I want to know what Rashad was going to say after the game.

How is Vaughn still being brought up. It hurt but lets quit focusing on this kid, until he transfers to isu of course

It's pretty simple - because he brought up the reason for going to UNLV was "pro style offense" which they don't have, and ISU is well known as having one of the only true pro style offenses in Division 1. I think if he didn't mention that, people wouldn't care anymore.

Honestly, I take enjoyment in knowing that Vaughn's main reason for going to UNLV was because of their "pro style offense" and they can sometimes not even put up 60 points in a game. I don't care that he's not at ISU - but I find it hilarious the reason he turned down ISU and even Kansas which has a much more pro style offense than UNLV too was for the "pro style offense."

I'd be willing to bet that most people are in my line of thinking. They don't really care that Rashad is at UNLV. They just find the "pro style offense" part hilarious and it is.

Define horrible draft stock. If he's in the late twenties then it wouldn't take much for him to slide right out of the first round. A first round pick is a guaranteed contract. Second rounders are less likely to stick on a roster, let alone play. His talent alone might keep him projected in the teens but if he slides then he's going to have an interesting decision to make in a few months.
Horrible or Risky draft pick selection is anyone not a lottery pick. I think only lottery picks are guaranteed contracts with guaranteed $$$. If you are not a lock for lottery pick you're taking a risk entering the draft early

This is the Internet. We don't get over anything, even when we plainly should.

All first rounders are guaranteed, lottery or no. Some second rounders can be guaranteed or partially guaranteed, but it's far from a lock for those guys.
My point from the get go was that unless Vaughn's draft stock plummets and he's a maybe to go late in the first round, then he'll either have to take the leap and hope for the best or transfer and rebuild his reputation. Staying in Vegas for another year is a non starter given the coaching and system in place. If he opts to go the transfer route, ISU makes a lot of sense if he's grown up and is really committed to developing and improving as a player.

If Vaughn transferred, would you really want him? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Not if he's still a self absorbed teenager taking bad advice from people with their own agendas. But it's not like the talent and potential went away overnight. If he's grown from the series of bad decisions that landed him in basketball purgatory in Vegas and realizes what he could be part of in Ames, then yeah. I'd be thrilled to get a player with that kind of ability.
But we don't need him, and that's been an underrated benefit to the recent success of the program. We don't have to take on every high profile transfer that expresses interest. Hoiberg can be choosy and make sure he only takes in players who will play within the system and by his rules.

Vaughn is not transferring. Everyone should just get that out of their heads. His goal was to be a one and done. He sure as hell isn't going to play a season, transfer and sit a whole season, just to play his second season after three years. He took his chances with UNLV and that's where he'll stay until he goes pro. He'll go play in Europe next year before he transfers.

You’re right, and realize I should have provided better clarity and distinction. I was approaching the “one-and-doneâ€￾ from an 18 year old true freshman mindset without maturity or developed skill sets, versus a 22-24 year old with better maturity and focus.

Anthony Bennett of UNLV was the first player picked in the 2013 NBA draft after his freshman year, so I'm pretty sure the NBA knows where UNLV is at.
