Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

I'm trying to read these tweets and make even a little sense of them, but honestly, I just can't. Am I that old (and white)?

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

I originally thought RV would choose ISU over UNLV because of exposure. There is no argument that he would be seen nationally 10 times more at ISU then UNLV,

However, if he does choose UNLV, isn't there an argument that, a possibly one and done player, would choose a school where the conference competition is weaker? And he can therefore put up the huge numbers that would get him drafted higher. The Big 12 is a grind and there is no guarantees he would not struggle at times. Just a thought.

So much wrong with this. First of all, numbers mean nothing to one-and-dones. Unless they are completely struggling to score, like a Karviar Martin who will not be a one and done, they will still go pro. Wiggins will not lead the Big 12 in scoring or rebounding or any defensive statistic this season, but he will still probably be the #1 pick in June's draft. Same thing happened with Bennett at UNLV last year. Secondly, these athletes would ideally like to go where they have the most competition. They go in with the mindset that if they perform well against solid opponents like your Big 12, 10, Pac 12 and ACC schools, they'll get noticed much more than dominating MWC or WAC players.

I've been to Vegas probably half a dozen times, it sucks. If your thing is prostitutes, gambling, and alcohol then go for it. It's a city with strip clubs, bars, and casinos on every corner in the middle of absolutely no where surrounded by hot sand. If that's your thing go for it.

I'm not seeing the problem here.

You don't have to go to Vegas 6 times to figure that out :jimlad:

Is it possible for Meyer to pump up UNLV anymore? Tweeting if RV signs that they have an automatic top 5 class. Which may be true but come on..

Vaughn went to Findlay to play better competition to prepare for his college stop. Why would he choose a mid major for his one year? That would go against his reasons for going to Findlay. Play better competition.

^^HUH^^

Golf, good weather, good looking women who aren't prostitutes, contempory (IE "hip" for those of you under 50). I go here a lot for personal enjoyment as well as work and I can say that I've not done drugs nor hooked up with prostitutes and I absolutely love that city. I've stayed consecutively for as long as two weeks and managed to enjoy every single second of it. If I was a 18 year old with the world at my hands this is exactly where I would want to be.

Why UNLV? I see what is going on very clearly.

Not gonna lie I will be very bitter if we lose him to a mid major.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

I think some might be overreacting on the whole "how could it possibly be UNLV." I believe it may be really simple:If RV truely believes he is a one n done player, then why not spend the next year of his life in the same town that he has grown accustomed to over the previous year. He knows the area and the people.

Why move to a new unfamiliar town, in a state like Iowa, that has far less entertainment than LV? Hate to put down Ames & Iowa, but really if you had already been living in Vegas, and were just waiting around to find out where you're going to make millions in a year, wouldn't you just want to stay in Vegas?

It wouldn't be just losing him to a mid-major. It would be losing him to a mid-major that simply isn't that good.

Actually... if the ultimate goal is jumping to the NBA after 1 year in college it would be reasonable to think that a guy wouldn't care about location but would want to play that 1 year for a coach that is going to be able to maximize his development in the short time he is playing college basketball.

Someone who is serious about playing basketball at the next level probably doesn't care about the entertainment level at the college they choose. If anything, that'd be more of a derailment of their goals. Either place you'll get decent exposure. Winning more will get you even better exposure, so that's a factor. Coaching, etc.....blah blah blah....it's all been said.
