Re: Rashad Vaughn

Especially since a player like Vaughn ISN'T what ISU is missing in the games they are losing. They need quality big men at this point.

We probably need both, but right now, especially in our 3 game skid, our 2-guard spot has been very low production. We shot really poorly against KU and OU. If we would have had average 3-pt shooting games, we could have easily been on the front end of those games.

Our top two shooting guards have scored a combined 22 points in the last 3 games, so you could definitely say that we need more production out of that position, especially next year when we lose a PG who carries most of the work load from a scoring standpoint.

Agreed, the 2 guard is the weakest position on the team we can live without true big men if our guards are reliable perimeter scorers.

Exactly. "Small ball" doesn't work out so well without a strong backcourt, and right now you would have to say the 2 spot is by far the weakest position on our team.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The frontcourt may be somewhat of an issue during non conference (depending on Nader's strengths and overall ability), but should be very solid once McKay is eligible. No worries there for me.

Easy to say for a guy who cheers for a team that has 2 top 5 NBA draft picks on its roster and probably 3 top 15 picks.

ISU needs to increase the talent level, if a top 10 guy commits might open the door for another top 25 guy to look at ISU next year.

This is more than winning a couple of games against 2 teams with great or good post players.

I'm not saying that ISU shouldn't sign Vaughn. He's s going to be an excellent player. Just don't go insane and think that he is what will push you to the next level. He's not. If you guys want to get the hype machine cranked up to 1000 only to get frustrated next year, go ahead. I have watched your team struggle against teams with quality bigs over and over. At some point that has to be addressed. Signing more little guys and praying they can hit more of the lowest percentage shot in the sport (3 pointers) to mask ISU's weakness in the post is just spit shining a turd. No matter how shiny you get it, it still stinks.

Kind of a **** post but it is true... We need bigs but I think next year we should be good actually.

Yes, it's VERY easy for me to say because KU is the perfect example of it this year. KU has had several games where the 3 point shooters have just flat out gone ice cold and they were still able to win the game because they could still feed the post to get high percentage looks for points and trips to the line. BALANCED teams win conference and national titles. If all you have to count on are three point shooters or guards driving to the rim, you are just that much easier to guard and that much more vulnerable on a cold night shooting. I know you don't like to hear it from a KU fan but it doesn't make it less true.

I'll trust Fred knows more about basketball than you, and leave those decisions and adjustments up to him. I think we've built ourselves into a better situation each year. Thanks for your input though!!

We have a big sitting out and a "medium" as well. Vaughn isn't our only target/prospect.

Yep.
Plus, our perimeter game is the biggest problem right now, and with Kane leaving we need Vaughn as a lead guard more than any other position. twocoach should stick to KU analysis.

I think if you ask Fred what the biggest need for his team is he would agree with me 100%. Thanks for your sorry attempt at a put down though!
