Re: Rashad Vaughn

Garret plays for the Jazz I'm pretty sure. I guess if they had an off day in Minnesota or something he might make a quick trip. Probably not possible with his schedule though. Tinsley just got waived in November so I guess he might. So far the people who have been back this year that I know of are Rahshon Clark and Royce White.

I seen Garret tweet about the Jazz win tonight, but not Iowa States(which is no big deal) that's why I thought about it. I knew Booker was there tonight, and those others recently. I also seen Klein and Lenz tweeting about trying to make a game this year.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

No, comparing is fine. Equating may be a stretch, and no one has said Vaughn would be putting up better stats.

Then again, it is not unreasonable to think a freshman of Vaughn's level could have a great game against a top-10 team. Honestly, in Hoiberg's offense, I do not think Vaughn would be far off. There is a reason why he is likely a one-and-done. He is a better shooter, equal scorer, and has an all-around game.
What Kane did tonight as only been done like 4 times in the last 18 years or something like that. To think that a one and done that isn't even ranked in the top 10 in a couple of rankings is going to accomplish a feat even close to that is a stretch. Also to say that Vaughn has an all around game is a stretch when he's been playing high schoolers. A lot of the things that you get away with in high school doesn't translate over to college. Not to mention he's a SG not a PG. Might make it a little harder.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Sometimes I think you guys think this kid is the next coming when we play against kids of higher caliber on a regular basis. We seem to handle them pretty well. While I don't doubt he's going to be good, other schools add multiple people like him every year and they don't automatically go to the natty championship. Some people need to temper their expectations and realize Kane is a special player and that a freshmen won't fill those shoes.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

If Vaughn produced at Kane's level next year I would be ecstatic. There is no way he matches it though IMO as a freshman.

He will be a matchup problem and obviously an extremely valuable piece of our team, but it doesn't get much better than Kane has been this year.

Did I miss something? Has Vaughn committed to the good guys?

Yeah, and I bet no one has ever done it before on the first Tuesday of the month when the ambient temperature is below -10 degrees.
Kane had a great game, but you are being nuts. Kane is only the fourth player since '96 to have at least 30 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Neat stat, but there are several ways to have a great game- arbitrary thresholds mean little. A guy having at least 25 points, 9 rebounds, and dishing out a few assists is also a great game, and has probably been done hundreds of times.

To say Vaughn has an all-around game is a stretch because he is playing high-schoolers? Yeah, you never see high school recruits turn out to have all-around games.
Many top rated guards have all-around games. Funny how that works.

In regards to Vaughn not being a pg, are you not familiar with Hoiberg's teams? Did you not see how many minutes Kane played with Morris tonight?
There is a difference between being a pg and playing pg. I remember when there was concern about how Kane would do as the lead guard since he was not labeled (by some) as a pg. Vaughn, like Kane, can be a lead guard for a coach like Fred while having less opportunities as a sg elsewhere.

Kane's all-around averages would be tough to match, but he would have some games where he is close, and I bet he would score a little more.

With the way our returning guys are playing, he may just have to fit into the machine.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Outside of the Kentucky team that won it all, Freshman have came in super hyped and have rarely lived up to the hype. Harrison Barnes was preseason AA, but was ineffective most of the season. Wiggins is supposed to be the next L. James, well he has not looked the part, the same can go for Kentucky's team last year and this.

I hope Vaughn comes to ISU, mainly because he won't be relied on to be the savior - he gets to play with an experienced mature team and can just play his game. That might be the selling point that UNC, UNLV, and others don't have.

Second-team All-ACC and ACC freshman of the year is ineffective most of the season? Wiggins will likely earn similar honors. Both those guys are on teams with 5-7 other 5-star recruits.

Which is one ISU's major selling points. There is only one ball and so many minutes available. We will have a good team and a great supporting cast, but he would undoubtedly be the best perimeter player. We have the perfect mix of talent to help him succeed. Somewhere else, even though he is elite, coaches will be subbing in a fellow top-25 recruit.

Freshman may not have lived up to the hype you pay attention to, but more often than not guys like Vaughn live up to expectations.

Kane is an absolute beast. That being said, I think RV can be an absolute beast next season for this team as well.

He does have an all around game which is why he's one of the top ranked players in his class and a projected one and done player.. Fred's offense allows any player to go off on any given night. Who's to say RV won't go off? He doesn't need to play like DeAndre Kane, he needs to play like Rashad Vaughn. Which has obviously paid off because he's a special player with NBA star aspirations.

Another selling point to be considered. If your looking to be a one and done player. Obviously you want to go somewhere that in that one year will best prepare you for the NBA and give you the spotlight to shine. ISU has the ability to give Vaughn the spotlight for reasons already mentioned. Great supporting cast and not over loaded with McDonalds All americans to share all the minutes with. Secondly, why not go to a college team and play for a coach who already has that NBA mindset that the player could expect to come into at the next level? I think thats one of the best things about Hoiberg in his coaching that not only is he a brilliant basketball mind, but he's coaching things the way that you can expect at the next level. If you want to go to school for one year to go to the NBA... why not play for a college coach who will be best suited to also be a successful coach in the NBA. It just almost seems like too perfect of a fit for Vaughn to not come to ISU.

If Vaughn doesn't come to ISU it's his mistake. As mentioned above, the machine will continue to operate with or without him.

This is not necessarily the case, IMO. If you look at Wiggins, he's averaging 16 and 5. That's pretty damn good production for a FR. Jabari Parker is averaging 19 and 8.

The problem that is as you said, team related. Some of these highly ranked guys are playing with 2-3 other FR most of the time, so even though they are very talented, they may break down a little at clutch time.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Dudes questioning the drive to get RV are nuts. Next year's team looks to be a go-to scorer from the SG away from being nearly unstoppable on offense. Thomas is great, and going to have a great career at ISU, but he's not that guy (at least not yet).

If I'm designing the perfect team, it goes about like this: Pure PG who can shoot and drive, Go-to scorer on wing, Go-to scorer inside, 2 great rebounders. You can insert the names.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Just a note to RV if he is reading this, when evaluating what ISU is doing on the court this year please take it easy on us, this is a rebuilding year after all. Things should be better when you get on campus next fall.
