Re: Rashad Vaughn

I think we have a chance, just don't see it happening sadly. ISU never seems to be on the good end of things like these. Maybe its years of getting kicked in the stones that has made me negative on such things.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

UNC would take him but he may want more minutes to himself. He would be a feature player at ISU and I guarantee would get more minutes. Not that that's the be all-end all.

Exactly; this does't change the calculus for UNC (they'll still want the best players they can get), but might change it a lot for a recruit as it could impact the number of minutes he'd play.

We've also rarely (if ever) had as much buzz around the program as we do now. Fred Hoiberg was/is a game changer.

Hell, the fact that we've got the #6 recruit in the country taking a long, hard look at us and is stacking ISU up against blue bloods like UNC is huge in itself.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I just glanced at UNC's roster (so don't kill me I I'm wrong) - but it appears that they'll have 5 scholarships open for '14. Definitely could make room for another wing.

If Vaughn wants to make himself standout on a team with a coach that is helping it emerge as an NCAA favorite, as well as help it rocket the team (and himself) into prominence, then he should sign with Iowa State.

oh they definitely will sign another player, but IMO it seems they would look at a big guy, with McAdoo most certainly leaving for the NBA after next year.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

It appears (from Twitter) that he is a heavy UNC lean. He even congratulated Theo Pinson on his commitment. If Pinson's commitment meant Vaughn couldn't go to UNC, I doubt he would say that (but it is Twitter so who knows)

Time will tell on Vaughn. I know the coaches are very excited about 2014, but the fact that I'm a Cyclone fan prevents me from getting my hopes up with Vaughn.

From what I can see, which is admittedly very little, Vaughn will chose UNC.

Im saying they can sign 2 more players. I'm sure they want a big like Jahlil Okafor, but they could easily integrate another wing given 5 scholarships.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Realistically if RV called Roy today, there would be a 95% chance that they would take him.

What will hopefully be enough to sway him to us, will be: Fred, Hilton, proximity to Minneapolis, he could be a big focus for our team/offense, and style of play

He would emerge as a much more prominent player with us than with UNC. And this translates into draft stock for the NBA. And he gets to play for an NBA guy as a bonus.

We'd like to think that happens. But...

If that's the criterion for prominence, then players would go to the worst school. Why go to UNC if you could go to ISU? Why go to ISU if you could go to Iowa? Why go to Iowa if you could go to UNI? Why go to UNI if you can go to Drake?

I agree with this. Time will tell. As it usually works out with ISU and recruits: the longer the recruitment process is drawn out the less likely they will come to ISU. I believe Vaughn will go to UNC as well.

But if RV does wait until next spring to decide like he's talked about before, there may not be scholarships available at the blue-chipper schools. As stated in a previous post, its first-come-first-served. ISU may have the 2014 scholarships "claimed" by the time RV decides to commit. If Abdul Malik-Abu and Sean O'Mara call up CFH and say they want to be Cyclones, CFH won't turn them down. Then there may not be room for RV at ISU. But again, you don't turn down a top ten guy. So many things have to fall into place for RV to end up at ISU. Right now, I just don't see that happening.

Because that's not the only criterion. I imagine "exposure" is more like a balance between being the program's profile, playing time, how well the style of play showcases your abilities, etc. And I'm sure this formula is different for every single recruit.

This is what we tell ourselves, but at the end of the day, there is no way to make a logical argument that ISU is a better avenue to being drafted high in the NBA compared with UNC. A UNC fan would make the case that Roy has send 10x more players to the NBA than Fred has, and he would play with and against more future NBA players at UNC than he would at ISU.

For the record, I think RV would be drafted in a similar spot regardless of where he chooses to go.

I got all day for Mr. Vaughn. If those 2 call up and we still feel like we're in with a good shot on RV you wait. Next level.

Scary if for some outside chance Freddy could pull those two and Vaughn to top off the talent of MT, MM, SDW, and Niang. Very Scary.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't Daniel Orton get drafted in the first round a couple years ago after barely playing at all at Kentucky. Kind of proves this quote wrong. The NBA wants NBA talent and they'll find you if you have it.

felt good about our chances until that rivals article a while back saying he was going to commit to UNC but his parents wanted him to wait, really ended my hope...

Heck, LeBron James was drafted 1st overall and didn't even go to college.
