Oh, and my sister's new boyfriend is a really good dude. She been a bit of a magnet for self-absorbed a-holes, but this new guy really seems to be good for her. He's smart, got a dark sense of humor and could converse well with anyone. He was also really good with my daughter without any condescension.

Extremely happy for her.

So easy to make...you cut the peeled hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise, set the whites cut side up on a plate and put the yolks in a bowl. For every six eggs, add about 1/2 tsp mustard , a pinch of salt, and about 1/4 cup mayo (or miracle whip) to the yolks, then mash them. I prefer to use a mixer to make it creamier. If it looks a little dry, add a little more mayo/miracle whip. Put the creamy yolk mix in a ziploc, cut a corner out, and squeeze dollops into the egg whites. Garnish with paprika and/or finely crumbled dry parsley flakes.

Some people add finely chopped pickles to the yolks...but I hate pickles. :D
I hate pickles as well. Love cucumbers, can't stand pickles.

Growing up in a different country until the age of 17 and then marrying into a family that never makes them will probably do that, since most of the time they seem to be served at family functions. I kid you not, I look for the damn things whenever there is a potluck, company picnic, etc but either no one made them or they just ran out. I might just have to make my own, but that is kind of tricky since I have no idea what they should taste like.

When my boys were younger the church we attended used to have a fellowship dinner one Sunday per month. There were always deviled eggs at it...but like you said, they went quickly, and I was usually too slow getting out of the sanctuary. The kids who were old enough would usually head downstairs to be first in line, and my boys got in the habit of getting an extra egg for me when they went through the line. I had them well trained. ;)

CG--I missed if you said you planted annuals or perineals. Our BIL owns a nursery, his mom always said wait until Mother's Day to plant annuals. I try to get mine done before we have 2 birthdays here mid-May but that will not happen this year. On the peanut butter pie front, I always use a chocolate graham/Oreo crust for mine. I embellish quite a bit--chocolate crust, a layer of chocolate ganache, layer of chopped pb cups, peanut butter pie filling, top with more chocolate, whipped cream, and pb cups.

Cooler--do you do graduation parties? May hire you out in 4 years.

Made it through my first big baking weekend. 300 mini cupcakes. Three different cake flavors and seven different types of frosting. This week I have cookies for a baby shower and cupcakes for another graduation reception.

Need to think of something to get the (will be) 14yr old for her birthday next week. She doesn't know what she wants, I don't know what she wants. And some of the things she "needs" aren't exactly exciting birthday presents (like she needs a new catcher's equipment bag).

I did put a chocolate ganache layer in mine as well. Saw that all recipes were using oreos/chocolate cookies for the crust but DH was adamant about wanting graham cracker.

I stupidly did some annuals. Even my mom waits til Mother's Day and she's 100 miles further south. It was just a complete brain fart move. I knew it but was so focused on getting it done before we left and had been doing perennials so I just didn't even think about hey wait, they need it warmer.

14 years old......any experiences you could get her? Like an age appropriate concert or event of some kind? I liked music gadgets and cross stitching at that age. Got my super cool CD walkman at about that age.

Since I was in the hospital, the neighbors put together a meal train and made our family dinner about every other night for the last couple of weeks. The meal train has ended and we now need to cook for ourselves. Is it wrong that a small part of me is hoping for a little bit of a recurrence?

That was a nice weekend.

Friday, the presentation went well enough. So happy when that was over. My folks made it into town soon after. We went to the local watering hole for a drink or two before we drove over to another restaurant and had some amazing (but holy cow, spicy) crawfish. I also tried alligator sausage, which was amazing. We were going to try out a new bar that I'd never been to, but when we pulled up there was a huge line and it seemed kind of "clubish" so we just kept going. After one more stop we ended up at a new local brewery.

Woke up a wee bit hungover on Saturday. We were running late so had to grab lunch to go, because I forgot to print my family's admission tickets for the graduation ceremony. Thought we could print them at the apartment office, nope, they were closed until noon. Thought we could print them on campus, nope, buildings (including library) were closed and locked. I ended up sending my girlfriend back to the apartment where a friend had a printer available. I went to get in line for graduation, then heard from my friend a few minutes later saying they ran out of ink. Crap. Meanwhile, the clock ticked past 12 pm and my girlfriend was able to print the tickets at the office. Crisis averted. It turns out that we could have just shown the tickets on a smartphone for entrance. Whoops. The ceremony was alright. 1.5 hours long. I was even happier when that was over.

I took my family to check out Miranda Lambert's hometown "Pink Pistol" store. It's a neat little touristy store, with a wine-tasting room. We all enjoy wine so we did the full wine sampling. That was the 2nd time I've been there and both times they've told us that Miranda was there that weekend, but we missed her. She supposedly stops by frequently when she is doing concerts in the area. I kind of wonder if the workers are told to say that to keep people excited about the possibility of meeting her... but... both times I've been, Ms. Lambert has had concerts nearby.

We went next-door to Love and War in Texas to have some drinks at the bar and watch the Kentucky Derby. I put some money on Irish War Cry but that didn't turn out so well. We stayed for dinner. I will say that this restaurant was amazing. I ordered a Buffalo Ribeye and it was out-of-this-world amazing. Very tender and the flavor was to die for. Probably the best steak I've ever eaten. It was worth the $30 price tag. Everything we ordered was fantastic, from appetizers to everyone's meals.

We went to another local brewery and another bar to round out the evening. My family had to drive back to Iowa so they left early on Sunday.

Great job. You've worked hard on this and deserved the celebration.

Love and War in Texas serves the best cornbread I've ever had. The rest of their food is pretty good as well and they do serve some wild game, if you're into that kind of stuff. Haven't been there in a while.

Come on, girl, this is GTO we are talking about here! Garnish with cayenne, it will look the same but be more suited to his taste. ;)

I bought some from HyVee thinking, quick breakfast in the morning and not too fatty.... the nasty taste is still on my tongue.
