why did I not think through planting annuals yesterday? They not look so good today. That was dumb.

Blah, busy day yesterday with planting now dead flowers, got clematis trellis up, weeding done, my portion of mowing done.......and a piece of fascia(?) blew off the house. Like, it was breezy but not like house damaging-windy. So popped off an email to builder to get who did the install so we can hopefully have that fixed before we leave.
Then went to dinner with friends, much good night.

Today DH is mowing the hayfield (couldn't mow last weekend, two weeks is too long!), I have his peanut butter birthday pie in the fridge, stained the new patio table.....need to do some dishes and go try to wash down the driveway now that dirt is gone. And finish laundry.

My dad and my best friend mowed for us today since I can't for at least another week or two. I could get used to standing there while they do it.

So did you have a beer in your hand while you were supervising?;)

Did it freeze/frost over there last night?

I stayed out of trouble biking, hiking, yard working, groundcover and hosta transplanting. Even walked to the local taphouse rather then driving. And for simple pleasures I found my lost garden trowel while picking leaves out of my vinca ground cover. Been looking for it for like 12 months. I had figured it was with MeanDeans remote.

Hey KC, I had your favorite beer, Kölsch, at the taphouse. ;)

I absolutely killed the whole hosting thing this weekend. Taco bar and margaritas were awesome Friday night. Burgers, brats and ribs turned out perfectly Saturday.

I had various drinks available in three different locations (deck, kitchen and basement). I even made some mint juleps and rum juleps to accompany the Kentucky Derby.

The escape room was a hit and a topic of conversation for a good hour afterwards. To top it off, the weather was fan-friggin-tastic for hanging out on the deck and patio.

Lotta prep work, but feels awesome having everything come together like it did!

Oh, and my sister's new boyfriend is a really good dude. She been a bit of a magnet for self-absorbed a-holes, but this new guy really seems to be good for her. He's smart, got a dark sense of humor and could converse well with anyone. He was also really good with my daughter without any condescension.

Extremely happy for her.

touch of frost, it appears. Supposed to again tonight. I was not thinking, at all. So in perennial mode, it appears. Not sure it's worth covering them for tonight if most got nipped last night. Plus our frost free date is like the 18th so there's a chance they'll get nipped after we're gone anyway. Gah, that was dumb. At least it was only one area and I hadn't decided what I wanted in two other areas and planted those as well.

DH's pie gains his approval though not enough butter in crust, graham cracker kinda falling apart. I'm off my game today, it appears.

Had our first neighborhood party tonight for the six families on our lane. Made a bunch of deviled eggs, a pan of bacon wrapped little smokies, and two pies - apple & rhubarb. Came home with about 5 deviled eggs, 2 little smokies (out of two packages), and 2 slices of pie. Success! :D

A group of our friends are wanting to go to Maui when the Men are playing there. Playing with Google Flights and I will definitely be pushing for a Friday-Friday trip to avoid holiday travel. This cuts the airfare for two adults to $2-3k from at least $4k.

I've never had a deviled egg. Want to, but just never seem to get a chance to try one.
So easy to make...you cut the peeled hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise, set the whites cut side up on a plate and put the yolks in a bowl. For every six eggs, add about 1/2 tsp mustard , a pinch of salt, and about 1/4 cup mayo (or miracle whip) to the yolks, then mash them. I prefer to use a mixer to make it creamier. If it looks a little dry, add a little more mayo/miracle whip. Put the creamy yolk mix in a ziploc, cut a corner out, and squeeze dollops into the egg whites. Garnish with paprika and/or finely crumbled dry parsley flakes.

Some people add finely chopped pickles to the yolks...but I hate pickles. :D

My grandma tops hers with green pepper, bacon, green olives, or relish.
