Doorbell rang about half an hour ago. Assumed some door-to-door ******** stuff so did not answer. Think I heard a flyer getting stuffed into the door jamb. Was busy drinking coffee and making sure everyone on the internet was staying in their lane. You know, important stuff.

Lost opportunity to save my soul or whatnot.

Absolutely everything, in my case.

Just so you don't feel like the Lone Ranger here. I was raised decently, given good values, sheltered, clothed, feed and financially assisted but loved in the sense @SCyclone is talking about wasn't part of the equation. My mom was not much for any displays of emotion. No laughing, no crying, no displays of affection....just the way she was.

Oh, I'm referring to a much darker, opposed to my living sort of way.
When we uncovered the allergy problem, my mom was so opposed to isolating it that she took to using it herself, then gaslighting us, then working with the in-laws to slowly roll through different Dr. Oz theories to try and make us think we were wrong rather than solving the problems. This led to several instances that very nearly killed me.

Or, in short, it's more important to my mom that I'm wrong than it is that I'm alive.
So I'll offer that there are greater loves than a mother.

It is dangerous indeed to assume that everyone else's parents were exactly like one's own. Mine eyes were especially opened when I prosecuted juvenile court for a time (not that I'm suggesting Boxster's mother is like some of the parents I encountered there).

I recall one hearing where Judge Dull (whose courtroom manner was the antithesis of his surname) stopped the hearing to exclaim in his booming voice "Ma'am, you are the most pathetic excuse for a parent that I have ever encountered". And he was likely correct.

I wish I could say that that's a cool story, bro, but it wasn't .

Yeah. I did have a case where an infant was brought to the hospital in rough shape. He had petechial hemorhages in his eyes (and wound up being blind). The docs opined that he was a victim of being shaken and slammed. The investigation took a while--the waters were rather murky. But after a lie detector test, the grandmother broke down and confessed, calling herself a monster. Her confession was corroborated. Another non-cool war story, bro.

I'm going to have to stay out of this thread for awhile if this stuff keeps up. Stories like these have a bad effect on me, combination of breaking my heart and pi$$ing me off.
