Our Walmart got rid of the self checkout lines long ago. I just figured Walmart felt they were too convenient and not enough people were being forced to wait in long lines.
We do almost all of our staples shopping at Target. I use the self-checkout lanes when I only have a few items. Otherwise, with large cartloads, I go to the cashiers. As I'm leaving the checkout lanes, I always check my list to see what I forgot (that's a what, not an if). The self checkout lanes are only on one side of the store and what I forgot is always on the other side of the store. Why can't our Target put self checkout lines on both sides? Yes. This is a first world problem.

We prefer scanning our own groceries because it allows us to BAG our own groceries without argument. We prefer to group things so that the bags go to the garage freezer, the refrigerator, the cupboards, and "other" stuff (bathroom items or office items), and we put way more stuff in our bags. You buy 20 items and they put them in 14 bags...oy!

We are literally going to Hope Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond tonight. My life is pretty much a movie.

did I tell you guys how we went to Target, BBB, Home Depot, and Menard's the day I went into labor? I really, really wanted to find a lamp for the nursery. And new pillows. Did get pillows, still don't have a lamp. Got some looks laying on the beds at BBB trying them out. Probably thought I was in labor...............they were not wrong! Got comfy pillows though.

Mrs. Velo is a former Hy-Vee employee and would grumble quite often when baggers at Cub displayed that they were never trained or at least never learned to bag groceries properly. When we got a Hy-Vee right close to us, she just lost her **** because they aren't any better. I like to egg her on occasionally about our local Hy-Vee. Last time we were there together I simply had to say, "Helpful smile, my ass." under my breath as we left for her to go all ballistic. I know I shouldn't get joy from this, but I sometimes do.

I'm a bad, bad man.

I never went into labor, but I fell asleep on a bed at BB&B once. My wife was not impressed.

Since then, she's doesn't browse near as much as she used to.

Four stores the day you went into labor? That's some extreme nesting instinct. You should have gone to them wearing a hospital gown.

we also went for a walk and I froze zucchini, hamburgers, DH mowed and froze some chicken. I was googling labor symptoms at Menard's. And we had to stop every 4 minutes on our walk cause I was "having some pain". DH was mightily concerned lololol. I was like dude it's fine, I can still walk.

I really wanted that lamp, lol

My wife also worked at Hy-Vee as a youngster and proud of it. I enjoy ribbing her every time we get poor service there, usually saying something like "I've learned to always lower my expectations when dealing with anybody Hy-Vee would hire." I'm usually greeted immediately with a one-finger salute.

Don't you need all those bags for cleaning the litter boxes? That's what our grocery store bags are used for.

"Paper or plastic?"
"Plastic. We have 3 cats."
"Sorry. Here's some extras."

Not exactly sure.

How did DH decide what chicken to mow and what chicken to freeze?

I used to work at Hy-Vee and I was terrible at bagging groceries.

I have a kind of weird disconnect in my visual to spacial cognitive abilities. About a year ago, I finally became adequate at picking out the correct size of tupperware.

When's the party again? I need to stop by the day after to pick up the leftovers.

Sunday Sunday Sunday. Final list. BBQ ribs and some pulled pork. Baked beans. Chips. Soft serve ice cream and either water or lemonade.

Will be no meat leftovers.

To be fair, this is tougher than it looks. I have started erring on the smaller size container because even if I'm wrong I can usually smash it down enough to get the lid on - even if only temporarily.

The Target at 132 & Maple is the same way. One time before they added self checkout I was there and there was one checkout line open with a very long wait. It was like number 20. A woman walked past all the way to lane 1 and opened it then yelled at us Lane One is open! You couldn't open number 19?

She wanted to see the shopping cart demolition derby as you all vied for pole position in the newly opened lane.
