I get that Lew has the technology but will he make the Taco Car "...better than it was before. Better . . . stronger . . . faster."

;)
You haven't seen the replacement hood he found. It will DEFINITELY be better. Once he gets it done we'll post a pic for y'all. Let's just say the new hood incorporates one of my catch phrases. :D

Oh, I think that ship sailed. :(

Side note: He's great under the hood of cars from the 20th century. Modern cars have too much computerization and require constant training to work on them, so shade-tree mechanics (like he calls himself) just can't keep up with it.

He probably could, given the age of the helmet car. Getting parts would be a *****, though - where do you find a helmet that big?

I've posted links to the "Now I Know" site when a topic really strikes my fancy. As a writer/editor/communicator, I like the content and how it's presented, although not everything is interesting to me.
Today's main topic, however, seemed to be quite appropriate here given our penchant for deriding those whose posts have typos.
I think we could use a little more Grace with each other.

My wife's van is front wheel drive. She previously had an SUV that had AWD. Should I consider getting snow/winter tires put on for the season? Do snow tires make much of a difference compared to all-season/all-weather tires?

Not exactly sure.

Where do you live? If you have to drive in an area that received good snowfall then yes they would be helpful. If you are out in country roads and backroads a lot, then maybe even studded tires (nothing like the sound of those on a road). If you don't do much driving in winter conditions, I'd save your money.

Personally I've never had snow tires, but also usually drive a 4WD. Wife's RAV is FWD and we don't snow tire that but I make sure the tires are in good shape (fresh all seasons are better than well worn snow tires, IMO) and if its really bad she can take the suburban or the good pickup which have 4WD.

Live in the Des Moines metro so not a ton of snow conditions. All of the stop and go traffic in the snow is where it gets difficult. My vehicle is all-wheel drive so she can take mine if needed. It becomes an issue when a snowfall pops up during the day and dealing with the commute home. It seems like we've had a lot of snowstorms in recent years right around the afternoon/evening commute.

They can help. Honestly, I'm always more worried about the other morons on the road than I am about my vehicle. I watch people flying up to stop signs year around, cranking brakes and the car lunging forward and then back at the stop signs. I probably drive people nuts who are behind me because i was taught growing up to always act like your brakes could fail at any stop. My dad would haul livestock part time for his brothers business, is where this came from. So that means I slow down much earlier than most so if I hit those brakes and something is off, I can plan for the situation; and yes that has happened to me before so its just not some dumb old wives tale.

Personally a fresh set of all all weather's should be good in the metro. I ran studded snows on my 2wd pick up. regular snow tires on my FWD econbox. My 4wd pick up just has all weathers. But I'm liberal in throwing it into 4wd if I don't like the conditions.

I can also add that tires within a specific category can very greatly with regards to snow traction. Bought a new Forester in 2021. The all-season OEM tires were crap in the snow. Switched them out after the first winter. What a difference. Here are ratings for the OEM tires and the replacements from Tire Rack.

I close my eyes when I brush my teeth. Am I weird?
I don't when I brush my teeth but a lot of times when I am doing manual dexterity tasks in spaces I can't see I will close my eyes to better visualize what is happening where I can't see. Not always, but when I am struggling it is often a tactic I use - generally right after attempting to swear the unruly components into submission...
