Bubu earned his scholly and deserves to keep it. Also, he'll graduate and have a good GPA, which is something every BCS conference school can use. He definitely proves his worth.

Yes, he earned a spring semester 2012 scholly and he will get to keep it for all of spring semester 2012.

I'm pretty sure Shirley's National Merit Scholarship didn't count against team scholarships. I thought that was in his book. Maybe he was not recruited. Those only go to the very brightest kids though.

Didn't realize Bubu was recruited in soccer. That probably makes a difference.

I can't imagine all academic scholarships count. Kid on my son's dorm floor walked on the football team after no recruiting. They surely don't count that against the football scholarships that the kid already had a University Presidential and College of Engineering scholarship, do they? If that was the case, they would never let smart kids walk on.

Did the walk on ever play a down? I know that Andy Kohler was on the football team on a track scholarship but could never participate in a game until they actually gave him a football scholly. His track scholly didn't count against FB until he actually was put on a FB scholly. He couldn't play until that happened.

I don't care what anyone says on here but Bubu earned his scholarship and deserves to keep it. I don't care that he originally was a walk on, he played meaningful minutes in some big games this year and was probably our 2nd best on-ball defender after Babb. He could probably get starter's minutes at a smaller D1 school. He's an Ames kid, I don't want to see him leave and I think he's a valuable guy to have off the bench that brings good energy off the bench and can calm the team down when we are playing out of control.

But we still don't know what Bubu wants. Someone with twitter tweet him and ask if he'd rather be on scholly next year or Fred use it to bring in a difference maker.

I'm kidding, please do not tweet this to Bubu.

Let's not. Give it to new guys that can come in and potentially start. Get another guard like Lockett and BUBU doesn't see the floor all year.

Doubtful, unless it's a very good point guard. Bubu is familiar in Fred's system and Fred has confidence in him. It will be difficult to replace his off the bench unless the player is exceptional.

The actual tweet should say something to the affect that there is a certain segment of fans on Cyclone Fanatic that believe he doesn't deserve a scholly and he should think about telling Fred that. That way Fred doesn't have to waste his time reading all the free advice in the posts to come to that obvious conclusion on his own. (insert whatever little smiley face that means I'm kidding)

I'm going to miss Railey Time. Who will maintain such a high level of fouling per game? In all seriousness I'm going to miss Sledge a lot. I've never been a Railey fan, but I wish him the best in his future endeavours. Try not to drive drunk in the future too.

Best of luck to both Jordan and Tavon, where ever they end up. I always had the impression that, even though they didn't get to play much, they enjoyed their time here. I hope they leave Iowa State with good memories and don't feel it was a mistake to come here. And I hope they end up in a place that is a good fit for them, where they can get some playing time.

Best of luck to Jordan and Tavon with their future teams. We'll likely hear from them again someday at some smaller school. As for the scholarships, one of them should go to Bubu. He deserves it for the effort he gives in limited minutes, and he has improved quite a bit. The other one should go to whoever we are recruiting to replace Royce.

:twitcy: Never been so glad to see Chris Allen on the court. Still trying to recover from those few moments of terror caused by CBS.

The only way a walk on should be given a scholie is if he makes his way into the regular starting lineup

My understanding of why Shirley's National Merit Scholarship didn't count against team scholarships: Every Iowa high-schooler who was a National Merit Scholar was eligible for a full-ride academic scholarship from Iowa State. There was no qualitative aspect to it -- his PSAT scores were high enough or they weren't. Because the scholarship was available to anyone in the state who met the test-score requirements, he was allowed to accept it and still be a walk-on.

Whether that's still true or not, I don't know.
