Installation commander (Rock Island Arsenal) has not closed the installation, however, a liberal leave policy is in effect for today, which basically means even the most hard-*** bosses really have no excuse but to allow their employees to take annual or unpaid leave if they want to today.

Kinda sucks, because I was taking today off to go to Williamsburg and Coralville for Christmas shopping with my wife today (and I was looking to score some ISU stuff at Scheel's in Coralville) - but those plans are now likely out the window today.

So get this... I am a law student at the University of Iowa and my first final was scheduled for today. Last night, the college e-mailed saying that if you still wanted to come take your final, you could, but if you didn't feel comfortable driving you could reschedule. So I get up, spend a good half hour cleaning off my car, get ready, spend another half hour pushing my car out of my lot, drive to school, sit in the library for an hour and a half and study, and then at 9:30 they decide to cancel the test.

Mobile work force as well. Our team leader stated Monday, do not risk your safety, if you need to work from home do so. We all have laptops, just need to provide phone #'s as well, if we can be reached to talk.

I work for ISU - obviously not at work. I don't know for sure if they will make me take a vacation day, sick day or what by them closing offices....

I should convince the bosses to make our engineers mobile and then give us a choice of laptop. (MacBook Pro 17" would be SWWEEEETT!)

I am self employed and I physically couldn't get to the jobsite in Grimes. I waited til about 10:00 to try it and I made it out to the development (big drifts on the way there) but the roads in the development had drifts that were taller than the hood of my F350. Not trying to get through those, not worth it.

It will end up being a vacation day for me. I only have a 5 block walk to work normally. But as I was attempting to shovel my sidewalk this morning, I decided that I wasn't going in to work today. I would be surprised if anyone really made it in.
