Last year was my first year owning my house and I noticed I had a lot of thatch, mostly in my front yard. I went the only route I knew and took a steel rake and spent quite a bit of time just to get one small area of my front yard worked through. Does anyone know a company or how much it would cost for them to do my whole yard or a better option? Thanks

Some guys use a power rake, just by renting one.

I just spend a few hours with my normal thatching rake. Something like this (vs a steel rake) makes life a lot easier. View attachment 19447

I've rented an aerator from home depot before. They probably have dethatchers as well. Get a bunch of your neighbors to chip in for the rental and you can all get it done for cheap.

I was gonna suggest aerator as well, my dad has one from like the 1950s that he pulls out every once in a while. Says something about how if it was good enough for his dad, it's good enough for him.

That would be nice to have if it wasn't for the cord. I guess doing it once a year wouldn't be too big of a hassle though. Not as much of a hassle as all the raking after you dethatch.

I have a small yard so it's perfect. It works very well and yes, just do it once a year in the fall.
