Nobody really believes that the University President would disclose truly useful information regarding significant capital investment projects that are dependent upon major private donations to a bunch of frat brothers, do they? Just conducting a quick survey...

None of this is really new information, just phrased differently and clarified. Pollard has said similar in the past that at the current point we arent comfortable starting the project without either paying down the existing debt or having a major donor so that we can take on less debt.

What this does tell us? This is something still on the table. They have figures, theyve discussed plans for how to do it.. we're just waiting for the right time to do it. Thats a lot better than wouldve been said a few years ago.

Exactly. He didn't shut it down. And he kept going with the consistent line we've heard from JP. Get a big donor, then let's talk.

Have your fraternity start a "SEZ Dues" to get the ball rolling. Convince other fraternity's to a philanthropy...a couple weekends do saltines and water date parties...you'll get this thing rolling.

Right. And I don't expect to hear anything [publicly] but the party line until THE announcement is made. I think we're very close, and talk that winning is factor--more so than private money--is just the party line. The stadium is full (arguably, beyond capacity) now, and expansion NOW could be justified to the Regents if we had the money.

Or, get your GSB buddies on it for a new fee. $15 million divided by 124,000 (31,000 students x 4 years) would be $120.96 a year in fees. No biggie...$60 a semester. Done! Election season is coming...2 Fanatics need to run for pres/vp of the student body....instead of the same old platforms of parking, communication to administration, tuition costs, and faculty evaluation.

Not laying an egg in a bowl game should be the next goal. If that were to continue it would definitely affect fans. 6-7 is not progress if it happens 3 years in a row.

The party line used to be a combination of "sell out JTS" and "get a lead donor". Now it's "win more games" and "get a lead donor". I guess the fans have done their part at least.

Surprised more discussion here hasn't been on Leath confirming at least a couple conference presidents want to add Va Tech and Clemson now. Could be a momentum builder for expansion if one of those presidents is from University of Texas. I think that's more "breaking news" than SEZ comments which is at least similar to administration party line of the past.

Continuing at 6-7 (or worse) will probably also affect the ability to get quality recruits, which will eventually affect the number of wins, which will affect attendance.

That statement from Leath about ISU needing to win more before the SEZ project starts was actually pretty direct. It sure seems to put that ball in CPR's hands, so to speak, apart from a big donor...

Sorry I forgot the :jimlad: as I assumed folks would get that it was a joke...and it was a subtle way to acknowledge that you pay a lot of fees. How about you quit being the moron and not throw the word "rape" around non-nonchalantly?

My frat just had the president over for dinner and we managed to ask some good questions. His take on the end zone was what most people on here were assuming. He was very proud of our attendance this year, but the project will still take awhile. He said some things need to happen. First off, our team needs to win more to assure this is a good investment. Also, we currently pay around six million a year to finance debt, and that number would double if the project went through. He wants that number around four million before we start. He also said if someone wanted to donate 15 million he could work something out.

On conference realignment, he said he is leaving tomorrow morning to meet with the other presidents. Two conference schools want more teams now. The other eight are waiting for the right school to come along. The current rumor of Virginia Tech and Clemson isn't true, but Leath said that they would like to add those schools.

Just thought you guys would find that interesting.

One thing I do not want to hear anymore is that we need to win more to justify the SEZ. No, we do not.

All we have to do is fill up the stadium, which we are doing. ISU was not winning consistently in basketball when Hilton was built.

Winning gets people paying full price for tickets. Filling it with people paying for $15 hillside tickets isn't going to make a dent in the price of the project.

Except Iowa state will likely never be much of a winning program. We've only ever won 9 games like what, 3 times at most? The culture has changed around Iowa State football, but sadly I don't think we'll ever be more then a 7 win team and competitive in close losses. Now everyone call me the debbie downer, but we had the most talented team this year we've had in a long time and still had a losing record and got absolutely humiliated by a C-USA team in a mediocre bowl game. Crowd support and fan support are fantastic right now, and it will continue to be great, but these awesome crowds we have will start to diminish when people realize this team will always max out at 5-7 wins

You are a realist my friend just like me, Hell we cant even win 24 games in 3 years like Earle Bruce did in 1976, '77 & '78.

I dont think we need to build the SEZ project anytime soon, Hellsbells boys good old Earle Bruce told me they were gonna do the SEZ way back after the 1976 season.

We have an average football program and thats not gonna change in my lifetime. Sad but True.
