Sadly I like self. Suck for him we can all pay players now
I was talking about that with my dad today. Self is a cheat and plays the refs like a fiddle but I can’t help but still like him.
It’s so apparent now that much of their success is attributed to the adidas cheating. Even playing field now that everyone can pay players.
He’s a damn good coach, a tad slimy, I ******* hate Kansas, but outside of TJ, he might be my favorite coach in basketball.
Bill's right on the money regarding talent evaluation. TJ has a fantastic eye for identifying latent potential and putting even marginal players in positions that leverage their strengths.
Remember when Self would have those intentional early game technicals? He seems to know those will no longer be effectve against TJ’s teams.
My favorite thing about self is that look he gets on his face when the game in Ames slips away
At least he stuck around, and remember, he did win a Natty during NIL times, right?
How about the others that bailed immediately? Looking at you Ol' Roy, Coach K, and Jay Wright.
Love the line about one guy who started and played like he was pissed off. And another guy didn't start and played like he was pissed off.
I don’t hate Self, I just hate the KU basketball program. The KU basketball program has cheated for years, and Self just happens to be at the wheel right now.
Went to grad school at KU. Ate lunch often at the bbq joint that Self and his staff frequented. He’s a genuinely good dude. Game respects game. He knows how good ISU is. He also knows NIL killed the advantage he had.
Self tells it like it is, whether that's praising his opponent or trashing his own team performance. I can respect that. There's no mincing of words from him. He's still one of the best X/Os guys in the sport these days, too. I feel that his team building has been lacking since the Natty run, but he's still legit in-game.

I definitely don’t watch all of the opposing coaches post game pressers but that was one of the more impressive ones I’ve seen. Coming off a double digit loss and thoroughly and thoughtfully answering every question. I appreciate him taking some time before each answer to think about what he was going to say instead of diving right in to an answer and filling it with coach speak.

Self is in the don't give a **** stage of his career. Don't get me wrong, he still wants to win, but he's not really worried about anything he says in the media being used against him so he's not afraid to say the truth. That and he seems to genuinely appreciate TJ and what he's doing at ISU makes him easy to like for ISU fans.
