Ouch. So not only did Chizik have to pay 200K to get Newton but now he could lose ANOTHER 1.4 million in bonuses?

Interesting:

If Auburn terminates Chizik for cause, the coach could be required to repay the balance of the $750,000 the university loaned him to pay his buyout at Iowa State in late 2008.

Wait....they "loaned" that money to him? That would indicate they expect it to be paid back at some point. I figured they would just pay it straight out as part of the deal when they agreed to hire his stupid ***.

I believe the article states that $150000 a year is forgiven for each year he is head coach at Auburn. So there is some protection on his part...but certainly some risk as well.

I don't feel one bit bad for him. No one else should either. Everyone gets what they deserve.

The Gene bandwagon at Auburn....baffled and worried....Alabama smiles...

I'm sure Chiz already had a deal under the table with $Cam Newton to get his money back in a few years when he's a pro.

Maybe that's the reason he called Austen Arnaud after the CU game :jimlad:
Is this common for the coach to pay his own buyout ? Doesn't the new employer pay for his buyout ?

You would think after the RichRod vs. WV case buyouts would always be very clear cut in contracts.

I thought of 2 possibilities: it is a common clause or Chizik was so desperate to land AU job that he doesn't mind paying to get that job.

I read the Rag this morning about Arnaud after his season-ending injury: DMac called him. And guess who else called ? Chizik.

Lemme guess hot that conversation went:
Chizzledick said:
Hello, Austin? It's me, Gene. I was just calling... CLICK... Hello? Austin?

I was listening to Chizik's quotes on ESPN yesterday about truth and honesty, blah blah blah. I wish someone at ESPN would say something to the effect of "Gene, you expect us to believe your words like when you told ISU fans you were 'firmly entranched' in Ames?
