I must be mistaken though, so we should just let Percy make bad plays.

Yes, this game against a DII opponent, he wasn't AS BAD as he was last year. Hope that carries forward.

He had 6 points and 3 rebounds on 60% shooting with a couple of good passes. I'm not sure how that can be mistaken as playing badly.

"You guys!" he said gasping for air due to his excitement, "you wont believe what I saw last night. Percy passed the ball out of the paint and actually used two hands to grab rebounds." The young man felt accomplished after stating this amazing news. He knew that other members of cyclonefantic would also enjoy this tidbit.

sorry, I've been writing a paper since the end of the game last night. Had to throw in my two cents.

Very solid effort. I wouldn't be suprised to see the starting lineup all year being Kane/Thomas/Hogue/Ejim/Niang, as I think Morris is coming off the bench as 6th man is our best option. Those of you talking about Morris starting-- who is he replacing in that starting lineup once Melvin is back?

I love Hogue and Kane's toughness. While the last 2 years teams have been fun to watch and skilled as hell, these are the kinds of guys we've been missing. I've heard alot of Stinson comparisons for Kane, but I almost see some Jake Anderson. Now, obviously, Kane is bigger and stronger than Anderson, but what I am getting at is that he doesn't seem to excel at anything but he's tough as nails and he's going to get his points. Hogue is exactly what we needed down low.

I have complete faith that Georges is going to play better than he did last night. You could tell that he was pressing a bit, now being "the man" on this team, especially with Melvin out. He will get his, I have no doubt about it.

Morris and Thomas looked great. I don't doubt they will struggle, but I love what they bring to the floor. Morris is just a winner, you can tell that. Thomas has all the ability to thrive under Fred.

If we can get marginal production for some of the other guys-- Naz, SDW, Bluford and Percy-- I think we will be very solid this year.

I'm guessing if Morris enters the starting lineup Hogue would slide to a 6th man role which would probably suit him very well actually, especially since he has versatility in being able to play the 3 or the 4.

The time Percy drove the ball from the FT line area seemed a little forced. That's all I've got for 'complaints' there.
He rebounded nicely. He seemed to know where he fit in the team, and he played some defense.

I don't think Percy is turning into Kareem or Shaq anytime soon, but he's not an awful player. He's a solid role player on a team that doesn't need him to be a star. We really don't need to feed ideas about laziness, selfishness, or just being generally awful.

Percy is Percy. He shows flashes of potential at times, but has one glaring weakness, IMO. He has no right hand. If he could develop a drop-step move to the right hand to compliment what is a very good move to the left, he'd be much harder to guard, and be more effective in Big 12 play. I think he could turn out to be a very good player, but needs to overcome this huge limitation.

What the hell is this?

We are fans, we should cheer on the team and support the players. Scapegoating a player and ragging on his game in and game out is the worst aspect of a site like this, frankly it needs to stop ASAP.

Look through my post history. I'm barely a lurker and have never posted about Percy before. All this "let Percy be Percy" crap just got the best of me. I'm sorry and I'll go back under my rock.

I know we weren't playing the greatest team in the world, but I loved how pretty much everyone was willing and able to drive it to the hole.

I don't think he played bad. I just think people are going to be disappointed if they think he will be a different player this year. If he did improve this offseason, I will happily eat crow but a game against a D2 opponent is hardly enough of a test to prove anything.
I also though don't understand the Naz hate. The guy was excellent with the ball and his defense looked great to me. He was off from outside and maybe never will be a great outside shooter but if a few more of those shots fell from outside, he would be the talk of the night. Thomas and Blufords defense looked the worse of the night imo.
But really no sense in focusing on any of the bad as they took care of business and ISU fans got a win they desperately needed.
I just think you are overreacting. As usual.

Quick thoughts

1. Loved Hogues little fadeaway.
2. Hogues 3pt shot looked odd.
3. Kane and Hogue crash the boards like beasts.
4. Monte is great with his hands and feet on defense.
5. Nice to see the guys drive to the basket or work it to the post players when the 3s weren't falling.
6. I didn't see very much drive and kick type action though
7. Fred is looking extra dreamy this year.
8. The band played some obnoxiously long note. It was incredibly dumb and just weird. I understand doing that during a football game but keep it off the bball court.
9. Niang was frustrated with officiating/his play, and it was a problem when he would bark at officials instead of getting back.
10. Niang is still slow but much quicker then last year.
11. Edozie kind of looked awkward out there.
12. ELLERMAN SCORED

MM and MT are going to be a great combo before it's all said and done. They will probably have some ups and downs this year however.

Hogue was a great pick up. Very similar to Ejim in a lot of ways.

With a line up of Kane, Thomas, Hogue, Ejim and Niang, we'll rebound and defend pretty darn well, while still playing small ball. That will cause many teams a lot of problems.

The future is very bright with guys like MM, MT, Nader, Niang and Hogue. If we can add 1-2 from McKay, Vaughn and Cunningham, we're going to seriously give teams like KU a run in the B12.

Is it me or did anyone else feel it was super awkward we didn't hit a 3 in the first half. Granted it's an exhibition game. On that who is going to be our game changers? I like MT and GN for range.

You can't look too much into the first half of an exhibition. We have MT and Niang who can hit 3's with a high percentage in our starting line up. Ejim is proven to be an ok 3-pt shooter as well. Then you have SDW, Naz, MM and Bluford that are all capable of scoring from long range when needed. SDW and Bluford have the ability to go off if they're hot.

I think we got a little greedy after the past two years, where we typically had 3-4 guys in at all times that could stroke the three.

We probably look a little more like a normal college basketball team now, but obviously you can win in many different ways so you don't always need to hit a double digit number of 3's to win.

Anyone else laugh everytime Hogue high kicks when shooting. His form is so strange.

Yes, it's ugly indeed. I hope that he and Kane can hit enough from outside, to at least keep teams honest. If they can hit 32% from three, we'll be pretty hard to stop offensively again.
