I think that he should have gotten/taken an increase in compensation. It is well deserved even in a tough economic situation.

I get where you are coming from, but I think Pollard is also a big lead-by-example type of guy in these tough times we are going through, and not taking a pay increase is a statement in and of itself to back his message. Props to him for being that type of guy.
This is my exact take. He has his flaws, but there's no denying he's done a great job advancing Iowa State athletics and I'm glad they're keeping him around.
In principal he deserves a raise, and hopefully it comes to him eventually. I think it's hard to freeze pay or cut pay as an AD for the people you lead, talk about about the financial hardship COVID 19 caused, then justify getting a raise yourself. Glad he lead by example here but hope he gets rewarded as soon as it is feasible.
Agree, but they could have included increases say in 2022 and beyond. That would show restraint in tough economic times and yet compensate him fairly for the job that he is doing. A salary freeze for 5 years is a bit over doing it. May be the contract could be revisited in a year or two.

Brings him in-line with some of the other Big 12 ADs, which as a group are at the top in the country. Pollard's salary is currently $903.000/yr?
He was absolutely one of the people Wisconsin should have been looking at with his ties there and his track record of success, and it always seemed like a job that he would be interested in.
This extension needed to be done if we had any hope of Campbell sticking around longterm. He is an amazing AD, and has earned an extension and a raise (even though he didnt get one with this extension), but this is huge for keeping Campbell and continuing to build what theyre building.

With the pandemic cut, he was earning $689,325. Under the new contract he'll get a 2% increase July 1st this year and next, with $25k raises to follow assuming satisfactory job reviews.

Locking in raises isn't necessary. If financials rebound the university can give him a raise. Negotiating himself a raise or even accepting one offered, would be a very bad look. And yes, I get that all of the coaches pay cuts etc were mostly PR, they all know they are getting it back in compensatory raises if things work out and they are still the coach.
IIRC there was a bonus he earned one year that bumped that number up
