A few dollars worth of pot and a few million dollars in endorsement money might have gone up in smoke at the same time. I thought Phelps had more smarts about the value of his image than that.

We were talking about this earlier, I actually think it will HELP his endorsement image. Before today his image was tired, talk show hosts hated him as he was all about swimming all the time... I think this will humanize him a bit more and make him seem like less of a robot.

My money is on that Phelps has Glaucoma and is just trying to cure it.

The gov't should just make weed legal and then they could tax it and make some money on it. How you can ban something that grows in ditches is beyond me. I'm also trying to figure out how in Iowa you have to wear a seatbelt in a car but you don't have to wear a helmet riding a motorcyle.

Phelps caught smoking pot

Phelps acknowledges photo showing Olympic swimming star smoking from marijuana pipe - ESPN

Do you think he was sorry before the photos surfaced and he got caught, or after he realized he lost millions of dollars in endorsements?

I'm sick and tired of athletes making apologies. If they were that sorry, they wouldn't commit the indiscretion in the first place. I can't wait for the day when some athlete mans up and says "Yeah, I smoke a ton of dope in the off season and I'm proud of it!"

Does that include NBA players, or is it just assumed they smoke a ton of dope?

Yet they are working on outlawing cigerattes. Sometimes I wonder if the same group that wants cigerattes banned everywhere is the same group that wants pot legal.

That's ridiculous. Generally people that want pot to be legalized want be free and want others to enjoy that freedom. By that I mean, each human being gets to decide what to do with their own body. Does that mean they want people to be able to smoke pot in restaurants and airports. Of course not. But in the privacy of ones home? Come on people... do we really want curmudgeonly old white men deciding what we can and can't do with our body and mind?

I, for one, am disappointed in Mr. Phelps. His decision to engage in this behavior in an environment which (obviously) was condusive to his behavior being discovered, and documented, was foolish and inexcusable.
Mr. Phelps, if you just have to smoke, go to your mothers house, close the bedroom door and do your thing, if you must.
Otherwise, please remember that you are accepting money from sponsors and selling your image to young people all over the world. If you are willing to accept the money for your image, your should be willing and able to be held responsible for the image you convey.
Once again, parents throughout the world have to explain to their eight year old what you did, and why you seemed willing to behave in this manner. I would have thought that a twenty three year old would have had more sense than what you have shown.
