Red Wings v. Avalanche in the late 90's was the most intense rivalry in sports at the time. Both teams and fan bases truely hated the other, and both teams were very good. Some very memorable moments - I'll never forget Patrick Roy giving up 7 goals at the Joe, or his "Statue of Liberty" play.

Funny that it's all the Bears and Packers fans that think it's such a great rivalry--and that that was a "great" game last night.

And no, I don't hate any team. My "hate" is reserved for much more relevant things than sports.

As far as the NFL goes, when any two NFC East teams play each other, that is a better rivalry than Bears Packers.

I know, that Redskins/Eagles game was just AWESOME. If it wasn't for the Cowboys, nobody would give a damn about the NFC East. Other than the Giants, that division is on par with the NFC North.

Yeah the NFC East and the NFC North are DEFINATELY the same. I mean you can tell because the East has four teams with winning records compared to the North. The North has the worst team in football. I'm not sure how you can even compare the two. You're just bitter that your packers suck this year.

Not bitter, they do stink this year. But you can't tell me that anyone in the NFC East outside of New York is any great shakes. Philly is up and down, the 'Skins stink, and the Cowboys are the drama queens of the NFL...which brings me back to my original point...if it wasn't for Dallas, nobody would give a damn about the NFC East.

Pretty much any pro sports rivalry has died with the advent of free agency. There are really only a handful of real rivalries left in the pros, and it's mostly the fans that don't like the other team, not the players on the field.

Rivalries really flourish when players on the field identify with their team. With free agency, it's all about being "professional" and not ruining your corporate value to your team or to others.

I watched a bears/packers game from 1985 the other day. It was VERY clearly a rivalry game back then. Guys were laying wood 10 seconds after the whistle blew. They REALLY did not like one another.

Btw, i would have really appreciated it your packers would have beat the bears last night. I don't want my cowboys to play in the cold at soldier field in the playoffs

They won't have to worry about it, because they aren't beating the Eagles. Not because the Eagles are any good, but because both teams are average at best, and the game is in Philly. The Boys had their chance Saturday night, and blew it.

Ware is going to put McNabb on the ground so much, he is going to be crying for his mommy's chunky campbells soup. Cowboys win in a close one. Partially because the Eagles have no ground game.

The Cowboys did the same thing to Flacco the other night, and the still got ran out of their own building. It doesn't matter, because whoever wins isn't getting out of the 1st round.

Uhh... I didn't even know the Bears and Packers were anything more than division rivals until this thread. I thought the Vikes/Packers was the big rivalry in the NFC north.

Not that I know everything about sports but if that isn't even on my radar I have a hard time even putting it in the discussion of best rivalries in all of sport. Let alone since it's pro teams and their rivalries always mean less than college rivalries.

I don't know if this was talked about already, but did anyone else get tired of hearing Kornheiser talk about how Rodgers is always living in the enormous shadow of Favre? I think he brought it up twenty times. Even Jaworski was getting sick of it.

Kornheiser is like a doll that you pull the string and it talks.

This isn't even the best rivalry in the NFL...sorry.

Let me guess...Cowboys/Redskins?

Give me a break.

This is the oldest rivalry in the NFL (if I am not mistaken) and is usually a very good game regardless of records.
