I need a copy of my 2005 Tax return. I've got a .tax file, but no 2005 TurboTax. They want to charge me $45 to download a new copy. I realize this is risky on an internet message board, but CF people are pretty reputable I think . . . if anyone (with a posting history) has TurboTax 2005 and is willing to load my .tax file, save it as a pdf, and send it to me, you would save me $45! Thanks in advance.

I would caution you big time on this. Everything is on your tax return...do you really want to give that info to some stranger?

I've got the disk somewhere, but it's loaded on this computer right now. I would be happy to send it the CD to you for yours to keep if I can find it, although I'm leaving town tomorrow for a few days. Don't know how big of a hurry you are in. If you really want to do it the way that you've suggested, which I would say isn't the best idea, I can do it that way. I'll delete the .tax file as soon as you've got what you want. I can route it through my law practice as "tax preparation" if it makes you feel better but you'd have to pass a conflicts check, and I won't get to it till the weekend or next week.

I have it, but honestly I wouldn't want the responsibility of having all of your personal information; even for a few minutes.

This is why I use turbotax online. Then it is all there later on for you. Of course if that service gets hacked, there are 10s of millions of people who are seriously ******.

If you have state farm insurance, I think you can download turbotax for free.

Are you planning on doing your 07 taxes with TT? If so, just buy and load that and it should be able to open that 05 return.

That is why I married an accountant:wink:

I thought I was doing good by marrying another engineer so I could afford to pay someone else to do my taxes.

10 years later, she's quit her engineering job, went back to school, obtained a teaching degree, and has been staying home with the kids the past (5 years).

On top of this, the kids are in preschool, dance, gymnastics, soccer, music classes, swim lessons, summer camps, and just about anything else immaginable that I didn't get as a kid.

No wonder I can't get my new car for Christmas!! :skeptical:

If you want to save some money, you could try not using the most expensive tax software product. ;)

this is true as well. There are some very low cost web options. I only chose turbotax because of my above comments. If that were not available I would use a web product.
