How Gentle Is the Rain

The Toys - A Lover's Concerto

I remember a long time ago (I was still in college in Ames) at a trivia night in a local bar. I 'd already won something so was disqualified from future rounds.

This came on and after about 13 people guessed 'The Supremes' or 'Diana Ross and the Supremes' I whispered it to another couple sitting near us. They won a pitcher of beer. Good times.

I dunno -
"Now I've Got All That I Need" or maybe "I Know You Love Me". Papa Gene is never mentioned, and it's sure as heck not a bluesy tune!

Edit - and who the heck was "Luther"?

I'll continue adding to the list until my well runneth dry. :)

Teen Angst, Cracker
--> Alternate title for this one screams for a parenthetical.
“(What the World Needs Now Is Another) Folk Singer.”

Numerous possibilities by this group (you may be familiar with the quartet). … I’ll choose one that’s among my Favourites in the Catalogue.

Misty Mountain Hop, Led Zeppelin
“I Really Don’t Know What Time it Was”

The Weight, The Band
“Take a Load Off, Fanny” / “Put the Load Right on Me”

Related/aside: I should add "The Weight" to @Angie Friday OT, “Kickin’ Your Cat All Over the Place” thread, regarding misheard lyrics. I still hear it as “Take a load off, Annie.” Also, in same song, "I was feeling 'bout half-past dead" I sing as "feeling 'bout half-past 10."

Queen B*tch, David Bowie
“I Could Do Better Than That”

Lithium, Nirvana
“I’m Not Gonna Crack” / “Hey, Hey, Hey Yeah” (or something in that vicinity)

N.I.B., Black Sabbath
“Oh Yeah!” / “I’m Going to Feel” / "My Name is Lucifer"

Pop Song ’89, REM
“Should We Talk About the Weather?” / "I'm Sorry I Lost Myself" (“Warning”: Unedited original video version)

Deep-drilling into the 1990s…

El-Scorcho, Weezer
(Cheating caveat: Title is spoken in the intro)
“I’m a Lot Like You” / “You’d Be Good For Me”

Mute Superstar, Guided By Voices
"We Hope These Cables Will Serve You Well” / “I See Them in the Dark" / "Significant Pink UFO"
(… GBV is almost its own encyclopedia for this OTN topic)

Good Song, Blur
“You Seem Very Beautiful to Me”

Technically they say "El Scorcho" in a gargly voice at the very beginning of "El Scorcho". But it is not in the main lyrics or the chorus or anything.

I thought of this one yesterday though.
