Roxy Music

Their biggest hit "Love is the Drug"

"Out of the Blue"

"All I want is You"

And lets get weird with the opening track from their first album "Re-Make Re-Model

Last but not least one of my favorites "In Every Dream Home a Heartache"

From what I've absorbed, Roxy Music influenced Duran Duran and Blur, directly or indirectly. And elements of that are apparent with these samples (and a few others posted previously).

Brian Eno was part of the first two albums. He went on to legendary status as a producer so I'm sure he had an effect on many bands from the UK

Radiohead must the be the same Cold play thing I don't get AT ALL- Pretended to like the Cure for a few minutes back in the day.
I did the same with the Cure. I liked the Cure when I left for college because I thought it was the music most college kids listened to. Now, I like about 3 songs of theirs and can listen to maybe 2 before getting tired of it. One of the hotter girls I met during college was a Cure fan so maybe that had something to do with why I liked them too.

Ironically enough, my first major exposure to The Doors was a greatest hits album. In my defense, I stole it from my sister, and I think I was 10.
I think you'll find that almost everybody that went to college in the late 80's to early 90's owned the Doors Greatest Hits album.

I hear a lot of Roxy Music influence in the one and two hit wonder New Wave bands from the 80's such as Level 42, Flock of Seagulls and Modern English. They even seem to have a bit of influence on bands like the Smiths.

For viewing pleasure.

"Hey, Greatest Hist albums are for housewives and little girls!"

Wonder if Jack Black's character in High Fidelity was influenced by this at all.

Both might just be based on music store snobs.
